Bike Mechanic Needed for 2002 SV650

    Hey Guys and Girls
I am having serious issues with my 2002 SV650 and I want to get them rectified without going to a GBM or Riverside and get ripped off. My bike is running lean and back firing and popping on deceleration ( My gas mileage is up to making me believe that as well). I have tried to find a vacuum leak but have not found one. Normally a vacuum leak will not allow a bike to run well at all or get up to speed.

My bike will get up to speed very well. The RPMs are all messed up as well. My bike normally idles at 1300 RPMS but after warming up it idles around 2500. I have already drilled out the Air Fuel mixture screw caps and turned the screws all the way in the backed them out 2.25 turns to see if that helped. Still not help. Is this a jetting issue? I have a stock exhaust. I just changed carbs recently and balanced them now this issue. Please someone tell me where I can find a small time mechanic who can fix this. I am sick of dealing with it and just want to pay someone to fix this. Thanks

sorry you are having problems bro but there is something you needs to understand. It is a lot harder for a mechanic to work on a bike that a layman worked on and fucked up. It's their worst nightmare...next time try to ask for help before you start.

What was wrong with the old carbs? maybe put the bike back the way it was then bring it in to a dealership?

there are a couple people that do side work here that may look at it for you...or a helpful member may do it for pizza and beer.....

if no one responds pm degsy, he maybe interested and not see this thread.

    need more stats on bike

    you changed carbs..why?
    whats on there now?
    air filter?
    exhaust?
    you checked all your lines?
youve checked the clamps on the carbs?
have you tried spraying carb cleaner around the carb area to see if the RPMs jump up?

Hey SVracer (we have actually met at a bike night. I got an 02 black fully faired sv)

The bike was running like crap last year and I could not figure out the issue so I got my hands on a stock set of carbs with no jetting work done to them. The Air filter is stock as well as the exhaust (baffles were drilled by previous owner). I did spray around the carbs and didnt get any major jump in RPMS at all. I may just not be getting the right spot. All the clamps seem to be fine. I just need some to fix this for me or give me a hand because i just cant seem to find the issue.

Bike Mechanic Needed for 2002 SV650

    Hey Oreo and TLRman
I am unfortunately leaving for California Wednesday till Friday then gone this weekend for my bachelor party.

Can we get this done next week? I am quite well versed in the theory/ideas that go with carbs. I just need a skilled set or SETS of eyes to help.

Its nothing to do with seating of the carbs on the cylinder heads.

Can you guys let me know what night next week works for you? I am in Medford and will come to you. I can try to bring as many tools as I can and I can bring another guy as well. PM me your numbers and I will give you mine as well. Thanks a lot guys I appreciate all your help and am more than willing to pay you back somehow someway.

The soon to be wife wants to hang out tomorrow night so that kills tomorrow night. Let me know guys!

Bike Mechanic Needed for 2002 SV650

I just wanted to put up a posting thanking you Mark and Scott for all your help last night. To those who havent met Mark he is one of the best mechanics I have ever met and was able to find the issue I was having with my bike and fix it. Not only that he wasnt happy with the way it was running (to me it was almost perfect) so he is machining the part and wants me back to install it. He is a perfectionist and just and all around good guy to talk to and hang out with.

To anyone who may need work done on you bike whether its carbs or Fuel injected he is the guy to go to. He has a computer set up for working with power commanders and he can tune carbs by ear. Awesome stuff. OH yeah and his prices are great too. He will NOT rip you off like the dealers will.

GREAT SERVICE!!!! Oh yeah he's nut too because he took a TLR and made it faster!

Heh heh, yeah, but if you saw the amount of PM's I get, you would understand. I had something like 20 PMs upon my return from the 2 days at the track. Couple that with my family visiting from england, my work ramping up with a huge job and the double trackdays this week AND a screaming 6 week old baby and you can see why I'm a little late getting back to people. Normal service will be resumed shortly.

    derek
