    Bike Will Not Start

A few days ago the bike fired up fine, although I knew the battery was on its last limb. I went to get a new one today and proceeded to pop it right in.

Still wont turn on, even tried to do a rolling start. Could it be something else like the plugs? I'm charging the battery right now in hopes the extra charge will work.

you need to charge a battery before installing it to do it correctly. cant open the box and install.. doesnt have a true charge

Where you bought the battery should have charged it for you.
On the battery is printed the correct initial charge time and Amps required.

    Re: Bike Will Not Start

well the battery seems to be giving her juice to start but she STILL wont start.

check all the plugs, put new gas, checked the fuses and it wont fire up. i honestly have no idea whats wrong considering on saturday before the HID install the bike fired up fine, but thats with the old battery.

anyone have any idea? i was wondering if there was a online manual for the 2005 Honda CBR600RR. this is driving me nuts.

    Re: Bike Will Not Start

Could be a whole number of things. I assume the motor is turning over just does not fire up?

To summarize: bike was OK w/ old battery and before the HID install; you installed HID and new battery: now won't start? You may have inadvertently disconnected a plug somewhere (e.g. safety circuit like the clutch, sidestand, etc...): triple check all plugs or go troubleshooting each switch. Have you checked for spark? Are you sure you checked all fuses? Some bikes also have more than 1 fuse location...not sure specifically about the 600RR.

    Re: Bike Will Not Start

    i checked most of the fuses i can search for. going to take the fairing work off and look for maybe any connections that might have disconnected and;

bike started with OLD battery before HID install
i did not fire it up after the install
tried to fire it up yday for a ride - would not start
bought new battery - charged it for a few hours and same deal

    Re: Bike Will Not Start

you need to define "won't start" a little better...

    - engine turns over w/starter and sounds normal, but won't fire up?
    - dash lights up, but engine won't turn over with starter?
    - turn key but no lights on dash, no crank, nothing?

i dont think the CBR's need headlights to start, that's a yamaha thing. your HID's have nothing to do with the starting issue.

did you remove the front bodywork to install your HID system? your Tip Over Sensor is bolted right behind the speedometer, and might have been turned upside down. that would be my guess on your starting issue.

do you have a Power Commander on your bike? if so, is the ground wire connected to the negative terminal on your new battery?

did you try to start the bike with the bodywork off? more importantly, did you try to start the bike with the speedo & tip over sensor hanging off the bike (and upside down). i had this happen to me when i was replacing an HID ballast on a CBR i worked on.

Yes The CBR's DO need the headlight on to work.... at least mine does. I pulled my fuse at the last track day and ...yup you guessed it...Nothing

interesting. i didnt think the 03-05 600rr would require it though.

could sound quite bad, but i tried to find the speedo and tip over sensor, no dice but i started it with the body work off, and it wants to crank over, just doesnt happen.

    Re: Bike Will Not Start

    Did you try this yet?

There's a "test plug that you need to ground, and count the flashes of the FI light. The plug is under the seat, right side of the bike, near the ECM , at the right rear of the battery. There are 2 wires to the plug, and you need to jump them, then turn the key "on", with the kill switch on "run".

If there's a code, the FI will flash your code(s). Count the flashes.

There's long blinks amd short blinks.

    Long = 1.3 seconds

    Short = .5 seconds

If you have a long blink, the 3 short ones.....that's 13.

    A long blink = 10

    A short blink = 1

    9 short blinks = 9....and so on.

    Let us know....

    CODES:

0 - bank angle sensor, ECM, PGM-FI fuse
    1 - MAP sensor
2 - MAP sensor vacuum hoses, or sensor itself
7 - ECT sensor poorly connected or open circuit
8 - TP sensor, TP senspr wiring
9 - IAT sensor connection, or open wire
10 - Baro sensor, or connection, or wiring
11 - Vehicle speed sensor, or connection or wiring
12 - #1 injector connection, or faulty injector
13 - #2 injectior connection or faulty injector
    14 - #1 connection or open/shorted circuit
    15 - #2 connection or open/shorted circuit
18 - Cam pulse sensor, connection or loose sensor
19 - Ignition pulse sensor, connection or loose sensor
    20 - faulty E-PROM in ECM.

    Re: Bike Will Not Start

The pump and relay would be my next test...

What you need to do is find your fuel pump relay ( it is located on your left intake tube, there are 3 relays, it is the one closest to the front of your bike) Find the wires coming out of it. There will be 1 spot with 2 black wires coming out. These are your bypass wires. 1 goes to the back of your bike to an unused connection. The other goes to your fan relay. The easiest way will be to slightly splice the black wire that is not connected to your fan relay. then splice the small brown wire (negative). Hook your batteries positive up to the black wire and the negative up to the small brown wire. The easiest way is probably to use some little clamp wires. This should turn on your relay and you will hear a clicking noise and your fuel pump will turn on. The only down fall is that since you are bypassing your bike computer that you will have to manually turn your fuel pump off by disconnecting the wires. That will at least tell you if your relay and pump are working.

this is assuming you have done the simple things like check wires, plugs etc..etc..

I THINK I KNOW WHATS WRONG!!!!!!

It's the same issue I was having with mine Jason... The sevice connector (basically a ground box) has a bad ground.

Let me guess, your dash comes on but not 100% on, no headlights, and your blinkers are on but solid and not blinking?
