Re: need to borrow Helicoil tools

I have a kit, I got it to repair a brake caliper mounting in a fork leg, it may be M10 x 1.0mm but I can check if you are stuck.
I got it cheap off ebay.
I am in Worcester so just PM me if you are stuck.

Looked it up. I need an M12 1.25 tap to install my M10 1.25 helicoil
Very common spark plug size tap. Got a napa or mechanic close by?

    I've got a heli-coil set for M10 at work - I'm pretty sure it's a 1.25 thread.

Shoot me an email/PM/something tomorrow, and I'll dig it up.

Re: need to borrow Helicoil tools

Got a whole bunch of M10X1.5 taps and a whole bunch of M12X1.5 and M12X1.75 taps but nothing in the M12X1.25 you would need for the M10X1.25 Helicoil or an M10X1.25 Helicoil tap.

I have one more place I can look when I get home. I'll let you know.

Starting to look like you might be better off ordering it from McMaster Carr.

    Sorry!

Anyone got a Helicoil kit I can borrow (and pay for the insert)? I need a 3/8"-24 hole fixed.

Can't see ebay at work, but I'm pretty sure that's the one I bought too, right? Haven't used it yet but it looks great! Still need a tap wrench though.

That looks like awesome value. All metric (so it wouldn't help me), but still!

I have a metric tap set if you ever need to borrow it.

I wonder if Mr. Butler has a recommendation for a tap handle or a tap handle set to go along with his helicoil kit suggestion.................................

This is a pretty good set.
    http://www.amazon.com/General-Tools-...ral+tap+handle

The only trouble is that it only goes up to 1/2" taps.

This is another pretty cool set-up

We actually have these sets at work and I seem to recall having an issue with the smaller tap sizes and the chuck on the tap handle not going small enough to hold them. I'll have to check that again tomorrow.

Oh yeah, thanks for the suggestions.

    Upscale.

    http://www.amazon.com/STARRETT-50429...s=starrett+tap
This is my favorite tap wrench. I have tapped thousands of holes with one of these. I bought mine when I was 18 and it still works perfect and looks great. It also feels very nice in my hand. It has nice balance and no sharp edges. It will also grip a tap with very little effort..

Re: need to borrow Helicoil tools

I've got a few General and other brand tap wrenches that I will NEVER use (I inherited them) because I also have Starrett tap wrenches that are all I will ever need or want.

Rada and I both work in the machining trade as professionals, and as tap wrenches go these are the "Snap On" to us as Snap on is to a professional car mechanic.
