    brake bleeder kits

decided to go ahead and get one, w/ the brake work I've got coming up. question: how well do the cheaper ones work? DK has an SBS "system" for $170... a Motion Pro Kit for $18... and a Lisle kit for about ten bucks! quite a price spread... anyone w/ any experience using the MotionPro / Lisle or some other simple kit? do they do the job?

    thanx

A company called Mityvac makes brake bleeders. I think they have two models one is made out of plastic and the other is made out of aluminum. I personally haven't used it but I think they are quite popular with mechanics. They are also rebuildable.

Love the MityVac. Had one for years. Works great for setting fork oil height too.

I have the migthy vac and it works great. Hook it to the bleed screw, loosen it and pump away. As the level gets low in the reservoir, add more brake fluid. Keep doing it until the fluid coming out at the bleeder is clear and your down with that side. Just take note that when you use it, the mighty vac pulls enough vacuum that it will pull air in from the threads and through the bleed screw. But it isn't getting it into the lines, unless you let the level get to low in the reservoir.

A little teflon tape on the bleeder threads prevents the air bubbles.

Any decent auto parts store should have them.

No sweat, that's what makes these groups so good. Someone has encountered what you are looking for at some time. I must say though.........you're a BASTID! Found one on the first try? I looked high and low for one before I lucked out. Those things fly off the shelves with all the little Honda tuner retards on the roads now.

    brake bleeder kits

Just wanted to say thanks, I'm going to check out Autozone when I get a chance and get one too. My brakes seem OK but the fluid is very dark colored.

And really, the 4-cylinder car freaks actually care about their brakes in addition to their fart sounds?

    Xrocket21,

How exactly is it not working? Did you forget to turn the bleed screw open? Did you forget to open the reservoir top?

I don't even bother with speed bleeders. I just put a clear rubber tube on the bleeder nipple, crack it open then squeeze & release the lever really fast.

true, but speed bleeders are helpful for new people that dont have a good feel for bleeding brakes yet.

    reservoir open, bleed screw upen

it just wouldnt pull any fluid, and I had plenty of vac

I ending up just pumping the shit out of them till I got fluid.

Maybe it will work better with brakes that arent being bled for the first time, like when changing the fluid. When I was using it, the calipers and lines were empty. Thats the reason I bought it, was because I couldnt get them to bleed by hand so I bought the mityvac. It didnt help.

    Re: brake bleeder kits

Calipers and lines empty explains a lot. You needed to suck the air out of all that space and draw the fluid through it, that's why it took extra long.

I have a vacuum bleeder and never got it to work correctly. I've had good luck with manually bleeding brake and hydraulic clutch lines.

Jim sucks.... so I usually ask him to come over & suck on my bleeder nipples.

Way better than a mitty vac

Was at autozone today buying new turn signal bulbs after I put the bike on the ground yesterday.

Asked about this bleeder. They had two in stock. Bottom shelf in the tool section in my store. Price is now $35. Says 'mityvac' right on the side. Seems like a heckuva deal..

I didn't have the bags on the bike, so no space to take one home.
