dot4 is more than good enough, and cheaper than dot5... plus it's easier to find

dot4 unless you're gonna bleed the system and drain it extensively before going to 5, or your bike came with it

I hear there's DOT 5.1 that isn't silcon based? (whatever base) like the 5.0 but has the same characteristics. DOT 4 is more than good enough.

It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?

yeah, 5.1 is silicon based, but 5.0 is sand based... it seeps through the caliper piston, through the pad & grinds away at your rotors

    what a goon

Dot 3, 4, and 5.1 are glycol based and Dot 5 is silicon based. Do not mix the two. Glycol based are hygroscopic (absorb moisture) while silicon based does not, however, the o-rings and gaskets used on each may not be compatible with the other.
