    goddam battery.. F%&!

ok.. i bought a new battery because i thought it was thebattery..
dropepd it in.. went to start it up .. nothing just a click from the battery each time i thumb the starter.

    ideas??
Ancosta is comign over here with a multimeter. I'm checkign any connections( none to really check), and we'
l try to bump start it.

if that doesnt work i'l take off the stator cover( intheproces tear apart the gasket grrrr...) onthe left side to ensure I reassembled everything ok when i replaced the stator cover over the winter..

The battery is brand new. dam it
i put it on a battery tender right now and it says it's"charging"

    ughh...

    ideas??

    any other ideas??

    ancosta came over..

battery was fuly charged before i left the dealership with it.

with the multimeter it read 12.5 v

again all lights were working etc.
we heard the realy clicking also.
ancosta an i Figured that when i was repalced the stator cover earlier i might ahve not put some stuff back together right.
namely the stator oil removal and also the staotr idle gear teeeth and making sure it matched up correctly with the stater gear teeth itself.
Could that prevent the biek from turning over??

    ideas??

You can't really check a battery with a meter, it has to be done with load tester. Not sure but 12.5 V sounds low for a fully charged battery, 13.5 to 14 V. Try jumping it off another bike or swap batteries, or just let it charge overnight. It sounds like it has enough juice to pull it the relay but can't turn the starter motor.

    faulty starter relay/solenoid?

try jumping the starter wires directly to 12v to see if it'll crank.

can you bump start it? that should answer your batt/starter questions with a quickness.

Make sure the bike is not in gear.

It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?

You could also have a bad starter relay.

If you are hearing a click but the bike isn't turning over, the contacts might be bad. Pull the relay, put 12V across the coil and check the continuity of the outputs. No continuity or anything more than 0.5 ohm means the relay needs to be replaced.

Occasionally if you hit the relay against something hard you can free up the internal mechanisms so it makes a better connection.
