    carb cleaner???

I was looking at a couple different products that you put in your gas to keep the carb clean. Any thoughts on which products work and which products are just junk???

    Re: carb cleaner???

Anything reputable should be ok, but really only to keep them clean. You should break down the carbs and clean them thoroughly first, then you can use one of those additives once in a while if you feel so inclined.

    Once.
    Then just keep it clean.

Stabil or seafoam is what I use.
SeaFoam definitly has a good cleaning effect, so if your bike runs well now don't take the carbs apart, just give a good SeaFoam treatment.

Just remember that all gasolines have detergents in them. You shouldn't be adding any extra cleaners except maybe once a year.

You know.. the autozone's near me stopped carrying it a while ago (seafoam) or else it's hidden somewhere ... I've been looking for it whenever I hit up auto sections (and walmart doesn't seem to have it either!) But.. I use stabil in the gas all the time and haven't noticed any good (or bad) effects.

    Re: carb cleaner???

If you do decide to break down the carbs and clean them the stuff I always use is Purple Power. Seems to work quite well. I have a lot of old Hondas and have pulled a ton ofthem apart. It isn't a bad idea to pull the brass parts and put them in a cleaner as well. I use Tarnx Stuff stinks to high heaven but does a great job. I don't know what bike this is for but the 10% ethanol gas seems to be destroying carbs. It hasn't happened to anything of mine but I hear it corrodes brass. Another thing you should consider is whenever you are storing the bike for any period of time is to drain the float bowls and empty the tank. I've never had any trouble starting a bike that was stored this way.

    Re: carb cleaner???

Its for a 2002 R6. The guy i bought it from went through and cleaned the carb before i bought it, just want to keep it clean rather then having to pay every year or so to have it taken out and cleaned again.

Then just regularly use Sta-Bil. Gas has detergents built in, so maybe use it like every couple tanks or so. Nice bike BTW, I have one in blue. Any pics?

    Re: carb cleaner???

    Come the winter sleep

fill tank using blue/green stabil at least 10 miles so though entire fuel system
Drain carbs or at least shut off gas and run the bike until the carbs are drained (bike stalls)

Come spring run that tank out then fill up with 1 addition of cleaner and you will be fine

They changed the shape of the can . . . it's got a domed top now. If you're like me if it doesn't look like you remember it, it's not there.
