The bike ran perfectly when I got it, but now it won't start and I smell fuel, bike is injected, any ideas?
Bad gas, water in the tank, did you have it on a tender? I'm guessing it's been in cold storage all winter?
The gas is good, it actually just ran fine the day before yesterday. I should have specified that I just got it.

F4i.
Any fi light blinking?
Does it turn and it doesn't fire up? Does it not turn at all. You gotta be more specific man. Do lights work?
It's a 2000, no warning lights are on of any kind. It just stopped starting.
Sorry, it's firing, I get a putt putt out of it then nothing. Everything seems to be working fine it seems, it just won't start.
2000 is not fuel injected. It is carbureted.
This is important. Trouble shooting fi vs carbs are very different.
This bike is injected, whether there was a mix up in paper work with the dmv or not I don't know, but it is very much fuel injected. I'm thinking a motor swap was done, guy wasn't real specific. At any rate, I appreciate all the help.
What made you say it's fuel injected?

oh man its gonna be on those topics... where is clayton when we need him the most?
It won't hurt...FI or not......hold the throttle wide open and push the start button.....make sure the engine switch is on position

Are you certain the battery is charged? The F4i will turn the starter but won't fire if voltage is down.
If the battery is good, I believe there is a tip-over sensor in the nose. Might wanna investigate there.
Another thought that crossed my mind was, it just came out of storage (?), check over the electrical for mice damage.
As far as a motor swap, that bike would need a tank, air box, complete electronics package to support FI, throttle bodies...and those items are just the beginning. Gauge cluster between the F4 and F4i would be tricky but doable. I have my doubts that the engine was swapped to the injected version.

Because it has fuel injectors. I'll try that though, otherwise maybe I should clean everything out.
Can you take a picture of the injectors?
Sorry everyone, a friend of mine has been writing everything including that it was injected, like an idiot. The bike is carb. I've been messing with it this entire time including checking sensors, gas, carbs, I killed the battery trying to start the damn thing, so after a quick charge I'll be at it again. Should I use starting fluid at all?
Something like that. Thanks for your input.
I will, thank you.
What is the choke set at?
Is the fuel switch on? (It's hidden under the tank).
A motor needs 3 things to start. Fuel, air, spark. With a carbureted bike the most obvious suspect is fuel.

I just brought out my 900rr from hibernation... I had a boat load of issues, but it turned out to be a weak charge on the battery even though my tender read full. I had issued even starting it with a car battery attached, but 15 minutes of charging it on my running car, I disconnected it and the bike fired up.
The choke and everything is fine, like I said, it was starting just fine one minute, and not the next, what's the elevation change to require a re jet?
