    Chain master

So I bought a new chain for the racebike (RMZ450) and it comes with a clip style master. Is this enough for racing, or is it possible to buy a rivet type master and use that instead. Basically, what should I do.

If you are going to run the clip type, I'd suggest safety wiring it, just loop the wire around the posts. But if you want the rivet type, you should be able to order one easy enough. what kind of chain is it?

Call some local dealerships, as they may have the right one in stock. If not contact RK directly. I've had some helpful customer service from them. I've had clips fall off at even slow dirt paces...would want one for road racing.

yeah, call your local dealer and get the rivet type. while saftey wiring the clip type can work in a pinch, it's not the best method.

    Re: Chain master

I don't, I've lost 1 master clip ever in all my years of offroad riding and it was my fault for sure seeing I reused the same clip probably a dozen times. A properly installed clip is not going to fall off and IMO, the clip is a one time use.

What's RTV? And what will that accomplish? Just wondering becuz I have a clip style masterlink. I was in a pinch and desperately needed one. That's all the dealer had available.

Silicone rubber gasket material basically. If I recall correctly, RTV in this case stands for 'Room Temperature Vulcanizing'. Smearing it on the clip 'glues' it in place, but will allow you to remove it later if needed.

Hey Man, just a heads up, keep a close eye on chain stretch with that model EK chain. I ran one last year on my RS250 at Barber and basically got the weekend out of it. My own fault, I should have spent the extra on the GP 520RX. BTW - I don't think they had a rivet style master for that chain, but if you want some extra clip masters, I've got a couple you can have gratis.
