Replaced the original chain on my RF at 18,000 miles. Went with the 520 conversion (steel sprockets) and used NOTHING but chain wax on it. Got 25,000 miles outta that chain/sprocket set-up too. Coulda gotten more if I hadn't wadded the thing!

Oh, and YES. Nothing'll ruin a new chain quicker than old sprockets. As a general rule of thumb, when your chain is worn out, your sprockets are too...

I'd go D.I.D. 520 conversion (Gold..... hi-tensile). Use rivet type master. I would also run Renthal, AFAM or Sunstar sprockets (steel front). For chain lube, I use BelRay wax.

    Chain recomendations!

Was considering a 520 conversion for my VTR1000, but I have heard that life of a rear alloy sprocket is very low. If'n that is the case, would I be replacing the rear sprocket without replacing the front sprocket and chain? ..........Is the former really true? Also I am running one tooth down on the front and two up on the rear with a stock 530...Would I shorten the length of the chain at all from stock length(102 links) and how will this effect my rear suspension?

who makes a conversion with a steel rear, or is that a custom builder that made one for you? Seams like all conversion kits for a 520 only come in a light alloy....
