    Re: changing oil

Oil filter, per the manual is done every second oil change.
Engine oil is done once in the spring and once before storage.
My old bike seems to shift just fine regardless of the brand or type of oil used.

What is this Dyno Oil?? Is it specially made for winter storage? What are the benifits over regular oil for winter?

I think that by dyno oil he is maybe referring to non-synthetic? Maybe? Not?

Listen to 'drop' and 'scubasteverr'. You don't need to spend alot on oil and filter. Rotella (blue can), super tech (filter), every 3K and before storing for the winter.

    Re: changing oil

DYNO for dinosaur as in natural based lubricants non synthetics
Old theory that petroleum is dinosaur blubber he he he he science is fashion

ANY reasonable oil can winter over as the point is to provide fresh anti corrosion etc. for storage, and to drain combustion products, No sense spending $$$ for oil I am going to drain after a total of 300 miles or so. I also add "FOGGING OIL" to crank and full gas tank so there is an anti corrosion vapor coating. <<< real not a foreskin snype hunt

I see what you mean with the DYNO oil no need to spend $10 a quart for Honda Synthetic for the winter... Do you start the bike up during the winter to warm up the oil and the engine and keep things lubricated instead of letting the oil just sit there covering only half your engine. And how often do you start it up if you do?

and FOGGING OIL? no what the hell is this? and oil/gas additive... something like Lucas oil?

i change the oil every 3000 miles and the filter every 6000 miles, as directed by the service manual.

Not mentioning what brand, weight, or blend I use because every oil thread turns into 60 pages of opinions.

    Re: changing oil

Fogging oil is a product usually used in marine engines specifically to winter them or store for long periods. It paints a sticky oil on the metal that sorta drys on the surface preventing rust mostly. ( I have gotten it at walmart)

The classic is to squirt a good shot into the crankcase and gas tank.
Then here comes the fun part
Warm up the engine (really warm so there is no condensation in there) and then with throttle tweaking keep her lit while you spray the fogging oil down the carburetor(S) until smoke pours out the exhaust then you add while deceasing the throttle enough to eventually snuff out the engine,

Wal La all the metal has a nice coating of sticky clingy rust preventative oil on it.

Things like my rototiller with a squirt of ether happily start after 3 years storage outside.

My injected motorcycle version is just like 1 or 2 oz in gas (completely filled) and crank case new oil then run take a 10 minute ride so she'd hot. Put her away maybe a squirt into the exhaust. If near vermin stopper or rag the exhaust

    Re: changing oil

It's Dino, not Dyno. It isn't HP calculator oil. Common mistake for somewhat vague slang.

Whatever the case, I change it every 3k with Rotella T synth.

    Re: changing oil

People change oil way more ofen than needed....with synthetic oil 5-7 k under normal use is fine. More than fine actually.

The 3k number bandied about is so old and out of date it's laughable! But old traditions die hard!

I like to change mine at 5k just because the interval is easy to remember.

I do it similar for my 200,000k mile plus 03 Civic, although I do it between 7,500 - 10,000k miles and I have always used Mobile 1 since the breakin period (used Honda Oil the first 3). She runs like a dream still!

I've only changed the bike once since i just bought it. I was planning on going 5k with the bike since redline is so MUCH higher than the car i feel this is going to break down the oil a little faster (civic 7k - RR 14k redline..)

Replace the filter and the washer everytime and ALWAYS use a tourqe wrench to make sure the washer is properly set!
