    Just dont do it with the bike in first to keep the chain moving, if youre using a rag. We've all heard horror stories of dumb fucks who get their hand pulled into the rear sprocket, thinking they were saving time over moving the wheel by hand.

    Re: cleaning chain

    i usually just spray the wax that i am putting on the chain and then u can wipe the old crud right off. Then spin the chain while appling new lube. It works fine for me

    I use "the grunge brush" with motorex chain cleaner. Works great.

    Then I use motorex chain lube.

    They sell a kit that has cleaner, lube, a rag, and a small can of lube you can carry with you in your solo cowl.

    Spray with WD, sometimes I wipe it, then chain lube.

    Or KB's cankles, whichever is easier.

    Holy thread, Batman!

    The ultimate in chain longevity and performance below...ready?

    ========================================================
    Spin wheel by hand and spray a light coat of the 40 on chain surfaces.

    Take a nylon brush and knock off the heavy deposits around the entire chain.

    Wipe excess off with newspaper.....if you do it correctly there shouldn't be a shredded mess of paper....alls you need to do is wipe the gunk off.

    Go for a 10 minute ride and ramp speed up to 100 mph once.

    Return home, wipe excess gunk off with newspaper and spray a light coating of chain wax. Let the wax set up for about 10 minutes or so.
    =========================================================

    This is the method I've used for as long as I can remember and I have about 38K on my FZ1's chain.

    Re: cleaning chain

    DBConz,

    I used to use WD-40 as a cleaner but here's the problem, no matter how much you dry the chain the WD-40 gets inside the chain and all the little grooves. when you ride your bike it flings out all over the place and any lube that didnt stick to the chain.

    I use Motorex Chain Clean. It cleans really well and it evaporates completely within a couple mins.

    F cleaning chains!
    cleaning was a pain in the ass, waxing it was worse. had to clean the chain twice, then clean my wheels twice to get all the wax off the chain.
    almost positive i'll have all that shit on my wheels and swingarm again when i ride it to work tomorrow

    Not too sure how you cleaned it but I've never had that problem. Were you holding a rag behind the chain?

    yes i did when spraying the wax on. i used 1/2 the can of cleaner too, and it still didnt get all the new rust spots forming on the chain. wasnt too thrilled with the brush either.
