    Clever maintenance ideas

Certainly you have others but this is clever. A Silver marker is really handy. Marking fastener sizes, ditto.

Yep, that's a good one. For a while I used that trick on my tires to keep track of practice sessions, races & track day sessions until I got a feel for what kinda use I could get out of them.

Same. I mark my winter tires on the inside of the tire and wheel and believe it or not with a paint marker on a somewhat cleaned surface I can still read the markings at the end of winter. Helps me keep the wear even on the all seasons and snows.

I number my cable connections with a sharpie, rubber hoses with a paint pen, and put a drop of neon nail polish on torqued bolts. dots are used when there is no room to write an entire digit. except for the nail polish this takes less than a 10 seconds and you know not only what goes to what, but also can clearly see if you forgot to do something

I use the labels you get for wiring when disconnecting those types of connections. Just wrap the number around the lines/cables, then wrap the corresponding number around the connection. They stay on for a long time but are easy enough to remove if they're going to be showing somewhere where you don't want them to.

I usually draw a diagram on a piece of cardboard resembling covers & the such I'm removing and poke holes in the cardboard to place the fasteners on the diagram where they go. My memory sucks when it comes to shit like that.

A little dab of white out or with a tire crayon when I need to be reminded I've already torqued certain nuts/bolts.

use colored zip ties (one wrapped on each side of a connection) and different color on each connection, makes it easy to reconnect disconnected electrics

That is a good trick. Here’s a pic I found online.

I also use one of these trays when doing larger disassembling. I number the bottom of the compartments with a sharpie, then on the underside of the lid, I’ll cover it with some wide masking tape. As I remove the screws, I’ll write on the tape where they go: 1-Gas tank screws. 2-Airbox cover. Etc.

    Yup, exactly...

In the event a diagram isn't ideal for parts/fasteners being removed, I make it a point to replace fasteners once the part they were securing are removed. No searching, no trying to remember where the fasteners go - they're where they need to be once the part is reinstalled.

That's what I've always done. Remove part, either fastners get threaded back in or in the hole of the part they came from and part goes on a bench.

Cable ties (zip ties) with ID tags you can write on. Like these:

(I got the cheap ones from HF.)
