    Clutch Lever Pivot Bolt/Nut -- stripped/stuck -- removal

The pivot bolt nut on the clutch lever (see photo below) is stripped or similar. The nut will not tighten or loosen, rather just spins in constant position. Attempts to tighten, loosen, and pull off with pliers have been fruitless.

How would you get it off? High-speed radial tool? Cutting tool?

    Thanks for your suggestions.

Stupid question - you're keepimg the bolt in place with a screwdriver on thge other side, right?

If all else fails you could cut it off.

i think it is a cage bolt type of thing on top, so it would be a smooth (probably rounded) top. you can take a cutting tool and cut a slot in the top so that you can use a flathead screwdriver to hold it still and then loosen the nut while holding the bolt with a screwdriver.

Thanks for the replies, Pete and Reiobard.

The bolt is _not_ spinning. It is seated in its position and not moving a bit. The nut, however, has somehow got itself fixed onto 2-4 threads, and is spinning in a constant position, does not tighten down and will not back off.

weird, in that case it sounds like cutting it off is probably your best bet. the threads of the bolt sound like they are gone, so if you cut the bolt right at the end of the nut then it should "slip" off (Probably not easily) but that is the best way to avoid hitting the bike with the dremel. you could also cut halfway through the nut straight across, i would not try to cut flush against anything unless you don't mind F-ing that part up.

It is weird, I agree. Feels like it has re-threaded itself in a perfect circuit around the bolt.

But, thanks, this is the guidance I was looking for. I do have the Dremel with the cutting attachments, but I have never gone at a nut that is flush with something I care about. I'll don the safety goggles and try the cut at the end of the bolt first (and see if I can pull it off) and try the mid-bolt cut if that doesn't work.

be careful with it, that thing will get hot, cut some then give ti a minute to cool down, it might get hot enough to mess up the paint on any metal pieces in contact with the part that you are cutting. (unlikely, but better safe than re-painting)

Why not just drill the top and pull it out the bottom?
Come see me if you want a in person opinion. I have drill bits too. ;-)
