Synthetic? Conventional?

So I bought a 2008 Kawasaki ZZR600 in July. The guy that I bought it from only put 579 miles on it. He did oil changes at 50, and 500 miles. I did an oil change at 1500 miles all with conventional oil. I'm now only about 300 miles away from my 3000 mile oil change.
My question is should I switch over to synthetic? Stay conventional? Go semi-synthetic?

Personally, I use Rotella Synthetic because Paul Lawrence does.

I've been using nothing but Mobil One for over 30 years. Put a lot of miles on many a motorcycle and more than a few cars using it. Great stuff. Be prepared for a lot of different answers. One of the top debates among gear heads for decades.

Use the same crap that you used at 1500 miles. It was good enough then wasn't it?

I use Castrol 747 mixxed 25/1 with VP 110. Not good for your bike though.

He recommends commercial oils used in long haul Diesel trucks either dyno or synthetic. that is "C" grade

I think a few years ago Mobil1 changed and is is not as good as it was 20 years ago but still very good

Walmart has the rotella "C" grade oil and also Mobil 1 10-40 extended which is NOT energy saving so OK for bike.

I am using rotella "C" grade for the remainder of the season and it is VERY NICE on the shifter test. moves like BUTTA $12 /gal

What I do is

Synthetic at beginning of season usually the MOBIL 1 motorcycle oil $9/qt.
run up to 4000 miles normal for me

End of season
run bike hot then new filter and CHEAP dyno oil that just sits over the winter

come spring
drain cheap oil back to good synthetic.

as its late in the season and I only will do another 1500 or so I am cheap and using dyno oil.

I really believe that it doesn't matter 1 whit but we have to worry about some stuff.

ive used all kinds of crap, for the last couple bikes and snowmobiles, i've used mainly spectro full sythetic, its available locally at roadside.

dyno will work fine, but i choose synthetic just cause it holds up to thermal breakdown better, and my duc runs quite hot. plus its my baby.

honestly, anything will do as long as you change it frequently enough, and just make sure its not a high mileage oil with lots of additives in it since you have a wet clutch. i've heard of some synthetics screwing with clutches, but those cases seem pretty few and far between.

I prefer peanut oil. Tried canola oil but clutch started slipping.

Amsoil i tried a bunch of different ones but this stuff is great.

My bike's got 11000 miles and 6 track days feels as strong as the day i bought it and i just did 2 track days and my oil is still pretty clear.

There's even a couple real scientific comparisons that I believe amsoil and mobil 1 came out on top.

Useing Extra Virgin olive oil is just silly, every one knows it has a low burning temp around 200 degrees.
I use 50/50 bleach and antifreze. It has much less resistance then any other type of oil,synthetic or dino.
It is a little corosive, so you need to rinse out the motor with viniger once in awhile, it will nuertalize the corosive Acidity.
You will notice a huge seat of the pants feel for the power increse, which you might have to make other adjustments to you bike to compinsate for the extra torque and horse power. I had to change my sprockets so my wheel wouldn't spin so easy. And adjust my suspension

You need baking soda and lake water to neutralize blow by acid build up.

That was a really good article. And I've been using rottellat since my third oil change. Its been great and its cheap but I also change every 3k no matter what.

I have never had an issue with Rotella. Then again, my bike has a dry clutch.


But I just buy whatever is cheapest.
