    Coppah: Self-destructing?!!

I need some guidance, here, folks.

Coppah is a 2003 SV1000s (but you knew that already). I've put on 4800 of the 6500 miles on the odometer in the two and a half years I've owned her.

A year ago, I rode to D.C. and back with no issues. Two months later (July of last year), the vibration in the bars made the Ben 'n Jerry's ride a misery on the slab back.

Now, the vibration in the bars is such that just a half an hour on the highway is enough to cause serious pain in my right hand.

When cold, the engine just makes ticking noises. When warm, it goes thock-thock-thock at idle. The problem doesn't seem to be clutch-related; the knocking sound doesn't change with the clutch in or out, or under load. The vibrations are definitely related to engine speed, not road speed.

Could this be the mysterious bad-bearing issue the '03s were rumored to have? What the heck to I do?

The service manager at Cycles 128 didn't return my call (no surprise there). Who's got a decent shop that won't hose me?

    Don T.

P.S. I already PM-ed TLRMan; no reply yet. I've also gone to sv-portal and svrider.com; I'm still slogging through the posts there.

Hooookay.... it's all buttoned up, let's see if it made a difference. Going on Curtis' Rib Ride tomorrow!

    (Note the home-made sync tool.)

Better! The bike now has a sweet spot on the highway at 74 mph (indicated) that's nice and smooth. Better all through the rev range, as well. Made the Rib Ride a real treat (thanks again, Dave!).

TB's out of synch go tick tick then thock thock?

I guess I should have mine synched, I don't have the sounds you describe but I sure get some nasty vibration in the bars and pegs. Pull the clutch in and coast and its smooth as glass.

There is a "bearing knock" that they have.
Suzuki did have a warranty fix for it, but it was like pulling teeth to get them to do it.
I'd toss it out there to cycles 128, and Suzuki corp, and see if they will still honor the fix.

BTW it consists of basically a complete engine tear down to replace the bearings.

People that have it, including my Brother's bike still run well, and it appears they won't blow up, which is a good thing.

People that have the knock won't blow up? Or, people that have the bearings done don't blow up? (Personally, my bearings are fine, it's the bike I'm worried about! )

I'll follow up with C128 and Suzicorp anyway.
