Daytona 675 Clutch

So, pretty sure the clutch on my Daytona is roasted.

The bike as 17xxx miles on it, and they haven't exactly been easy miles.

Symptoms are all of those of a slipping clutch, bike revs, but does not go, the "slipping" sensation, huge power loss, and difficulty getting to very high rpms.

If there's any other thoughts of what might be causing this, please let me know, but I'm 99% sure it needs a clutch. The valves have not been adjusted, but they were last checked around 12k, any chance poor clearances could have the same effect?

So, assuming I need a clutch, at the moment, I cannot afford the slipper clutch for 1k. But I have found some clutch kits for around 200 bucks, and a few slightly used oem clutch's for short money. Here are some listed below, any thoughts on any of these? This bike will be a track only bike by next season, so a heavy clutch, or any thing that is not very comfortable for the street is okay.

Also, I may go at installing this myself with a service manual. Anyone willing to lend a hand for a case of beer or a small fee? Any shops here interested in doing the work? If so, send me an estimate. And I will need this done by June 21.

I've read mixed reviews on the barnett clutch, but the price is right, and its brand new. I'm a bit hesitant with used parts, but its off of a low mileage bike. I have not priced out from the dealer yet, but I'm assuming its not gonna be a cheap visit if I go that route.

Whatever you do don't ride that thing any more than about a block from your house. My SV went from "slight slippage" to "neutral in every gear" in less than one lap at Loudon.

I assume you've already checked the cable.

Yup, cable has been checked and adjusted to all ends.

I'm really looking for reviews on the barrett kit, I've recently read a good one on triumph675, but any other opinions??

-barrett kit is a good OEM replacement. for the $$$ and miles used you'd be better off spending a couple of hundred more for a slipper. EVR makes a good product, I have 5000+ miles on mine with zero issues.

The clutch on my SV was slipping but it wasn't the cable... ended up being a push rod adjustment.

Make sure there's not another adjustment point like there was on my SV, however with 17k trouble free miles up until this point, it probably needs replacing.

If you're not going with the slipper, I would always recommend the stocker. barnett clutches tend to be heavy duty and can make moving off more difficult. The springs they supply are stiffer, making for a harder clutch pull. A stock clutch should last longer than a Barnett too.

Good to know, but I'm not too concerned with that, most of my riding will be on the track from now on...unless its a huge concern on the track, but I feel like I could stick it out.

So, I drove down to CT the other night, Chris (Palm Bomb) put in the new clutch, and the problem still exists.

After some test rides by both me and Chris, here are the following symptoms:

The slipping only occurs when the powerband hits around 8k rpms. It will do it in every gear, but its obviously more noticeable in the lower gears, especially first.

The bike has 17xxx miles on it. The original chain and sprockets have been taken good care of, but the chain is definitely stretched. Chris thinks there is a good chance the slipping could be here, so I ordered a new set later that night. I'm hoping this is the problem.

The bike has not have its valves checked/adjusted, so I am having that done ASAP. Any shop/person on here able to do that? By June 22nd? Will pay in cash/beer/whatever.

Anyone have any other ideas? The motor runs fine, the clutch is fine, and the slipping only occurs at 8k and up, when the power really kicks in.

A big thanks to Chris! He helped out a ton, and really knows his stuff. Had the new clutch in in about half an hour.

I'll let Chris Chime in on the Clutch Spring, I'm not sure. I have stock levers.

Also to add, I have not changed the plugs yet, so I will also be doing that.

I try to stay away from specific model bike/car dedicated forums because there is just a much crap information as there is good information. But I will be venturing there if I can't figure this out.

I really want to get this solved by the 22nd, since I have bought both tonys days, so any help is greatly appreciated. Any shop/person on here able to check/adjust my valves by then? I know it's a stretch.

Yes, we changed the springs.

I dont think it's slipping...I put it in fifth gear at thirty mph and punched it all the way up to 10-11k rpms and not once did the tach race.

The chain is stretched more than my belt after and all you can eat sizzler fest. I'm thinking that's the issue. Chain hops horribly and sounds like a coffee bean grinder lol.
