    Dead battery troubleshooting.

Hello. 2009 cbr600, 19k miles. Did 60 mile ride and stopped an hour. Went to start bike. It cranked briefly then stopped and speedo went crazy. Nevervhad problem before Turned off key and turned it on again. Bright lights but wouldn't turn over. Clock went to 1:00. Kill switch in run position but bike does crank when it's in off position. Also bike in neutral. Push started it and rode home 60 miles. Started right up many times when I got home. Put it on tender for a couple hours. Got multimeter at work. Battery 13.2 volts when not running, 14.4 volts at 5k rpm. Removed neg cable and put multimeter inline 0 ma leakage showed with key off. Starts fine again this morning. Didn't leave on tender. Thinking most likely a bad battery. Any other thoughts? Thanks.

    Re: Dead battery troubleshooting.

I had the same issue with my 09 R1 about a month ago. It would randomly not start and the dash went a little crazy. It was the original battery anyways, so I just replaced it with the same thing. Solved my problem! A lot of times a battery can show a full charge when tested, but the load testers are what tells the story. Razee's will load test it for you, but my guess is you need a new one

Sounds more like a loose bad connection somewhere. Did you test the voltage after it was off the tender for some time?

Thanks. That's what I figure and of course it was parked at Razees 2 hours Saturday while I sat on bikes and bs'd the afternoon away but it starts fine until a Sunday of a 3 day weekend.

Clean and tight connections. Reg/rec does show as next troubleshooting step in shop manual.
