The best stuff to use is Motorex 611 chain cleaner and Motorex 622 lube. It is by far the best chain lube I've used (and I have used just about every brand out there). If you can't find the cleaner use Simple Green and a vegetable scrub brush- it won't hurt your o-rings.
My SV chain has 10k on it, kerosene to clean, WD40 to lube. How you like them apples
I'm not trying a "real" lube though. That Dupont Teflon multi purpose stuff that Webbikeworld raves about. So far I like it a lot. Almost zero mess, and you can watch the stuff push out dirt and coat the chain. It also dries very quickly, and doesn't seem to attract much dirt.
Fuck cleaning them. Other than the water and soap that falls on it when and if I do wash it.
Just keep lubing the thing. You should ket at least 30k out of a set.
KB
kerosene every 500-800mi and then DuPont Teflon Chain Lube every 2-3 tanks of gas.
hurray, strikethrough!
