Somehow in the aftermath of the crash seat lock on my Tuono got lost, so for a while I was prowling evilBay hoping to get something, anything, then called AF1...
$19.XX got me a brand new lock with 2 new keys (best evilBay had to offer was $40 with 1 key or $30 without any keys)
Now I'm getting greedy, was happy just getting ANY lock but now I want to have a single key to use on all locks, asked locksmith next door for a quote, he wants $30, I know the guy, he ain't to bright, so I figured this has to be something I can do myself.
So here's my re-key DIY.
*DISCLAIMER*
I am not a locksmith but I have years of experience doing things and even some certifications.
This may or may not work for your application, so at your own risk, etc...
Step 1: take photos, glad I did: the thingy that catches the cable can go in 8 different ways and that's just facing one way, so 16 possible ways to assemble it.
remove screw, washer, cable pull and spring.
Insert key, with small screwdriver or pick push in the silver plate, it's spring-loaded, then pull lock cylinder out
now insert new key and file down all the pins that stick out EXCEPT FOR THE VERY LAST ONE, it's there to keep the lock from turning too far or falling apart
reverse procedure to install, insert key, use small screw driver or pick to press the spring-loaded tab down and feed the lock back in the cylinder
if done right your new and old key will now work in the lock.
Total Cost under $20, result priceless!!!
