Another little trick for the sidestand plate.....
tie a string or one of those springy things, like the ones that come with caliper locks to "remind" you it's on, to the sidestand disc so when you get on, just pull your plate up, throw it in the bag/pocket/etc and go.
On hot days I carry a square electrical cover.

i found this piece of metal that works better than anything else I have ever used. I think it is the end cap to a Blind set. Its sides are cornered which prevents the stand from slipping off if anyone ever touches the bike. It has a couple holes in it which sets it self into the ground very nicely....
