    Dropped bolt

When working on the controls I typically put a rag around the front of the tank to keep dropped things from disappearing. Today while fitting a Ram ball mount to the top triple I didn't. Perhaps it was the heat in the garage or laziness. Hard to believe that stud could make it through the space between the front of the fuel tank and frame on its way down who knows where.

For me it's usually the stainless steel hardware that drops into some dark crevice. Sometimes the bits shake out a year or two later.

This is up there with loosing all of your 10mm sockets; just about everyone has been there, got the t-shirt.
My magnet-on-a-stick gets a lot of use.
I'll add that now that I have a lift table dropped hardware doesn't seem to go quite as far as it used to. Up-side to the rolled up, sharp as a razor edges on my cheapo HF lift I guess.

Raised the front of the tank and mechanics magnet to the rescue. On the plus side I found a couple more screws the prevoius owner had lost!

    Re: Dropped bolt

1985 I’m doing a cr125 top end. Brought home 2 piston clips. First one goes on piston in my hand like it should. Putting second one on it goes across the garage. Pings off something metal across the garage never to be found but at least not in the engine. Next day I bring home a whole packet of clips. Of course having extras means the clip went on perfect the first time. I hate dropping and looking for stuff. The lift sure does help like mentioned helps. I glued some hot water pipe insulating foam on the corners to save my shins when it’s in a lowered position.

I hear a track day is a good way to shake out those loose fasteners. Lol.

Absolutely guaranteed that if you drop a bolt, you will have two spares: one too short, one too long.....

Last time it happened to me, I just wanted to top off the coolant on the grizzly atv. Like flip top lid, put coolant in, snap it shut.... but the lid came all the way off and fell in the skid plates. Now I have the jack out, a flashlight, im lying on the ground, start removing rusty skid plate bolts....
