    F4I injection issues.

My f4i has an issue hope some one might be able to shed some light.

I Never heard the bike run but was told it ran good, the PO striped out the plug threads in the head. I pulled the motor replaced the head and reassembled.
Fired it up and it idles WAY rough but will idle, wont rev past 2k and is running very rich, plugs are a nice shade of black. when i fired it up i got 3 FI fault codes, faulty MAP, Cam position, and TPS. I found a leak in the intake boot, fixed it and it ran a slightly but better with the same codes. Swaped out the ECU and fired it, now i'm getting 2 codes, MAP and TPS, but it is a diferent code for the MAP.... Both sensors are hooked up and ok. I read that the TPS can get fucked on these if you open and close the throttle bodies with the injectors off the bike, sounds silly to me but hey...
    Any suggestions?

    Thanks, 6

Given what you're describing, and the fact that the MAP and TPS faults are common across two ECUs, I'd say you've got sensor issues. The TPS you should be able to dial in with Volt-ohm meter, I dunno if you can diag the MAP directly or not with just a VOM?

There should be a procedure on setting up the TPS somewhere on the webs. I don't see how it could be affected by cracking the throttle bodies open with the injectors removed unless there is power going to it and it's trying to read an input. Either way, it doesn't sound right that the TPS would break or lose its calibration since it is set up in a particular position on the rod for the butterflies. The only way I've heard of a TPS having issues is when it's broken or not adjusted correctly.

Not sure about the MAP. Is the sensor clean and free of debris and are you sure the body isn't cracked or damaged in any way?

Map sensor looks clean and intact, The air box is a bit melted might not be sealing right don't think that on its own could be this large an issue. But it might be enough to give the map code and then a bad TPS causing the rest.... TPS could have got fucked in the small fire that melted the air box.....

    A fire? This changes everything.

Confirm the MAP sensor is sealed correctly and consider the amount of heat the TPS and MAP were exposed to. Heat isn't any good for electronics.....fire is even worse.

Map was not on the bike at the time of the fire.... Part of the reason for the fire tps was. Wish i had one to test, it cant be removed from the throttle bodies it has to be replaced with them.

So the only way Honda sells the TPS is as an assembly with the throttle bodies? I highly doubt that. Somewhere there is a procedure to set it up.

    Re: F4I injection issues.

From sportbikes.net I have seen the same said other places..

"I had a buddy with a F4i that had those problems but so bad that it would not idle before it was warmed up unless you gave it throttle. It was in the shop for almost a month after trying everything. The only thing that fixed it was a new set of throttle bodies. The bad thing about Honda is that they don't sell the T.P.S. separate from the throttle bodies so if it is the T.P.S. your looking at spending almost 1,000 dollars for the whole setup."

Okay, now I'm curious about all this...

Off to do some research on TPS setup procedures.
