Exactly!!! Everyone should have this. It costs nothing... just be an AMA member and let them automatically renew you each year.

Best $39 you'll spend and you're helping all motorcyclists...and yourself!

Re: What if you get a flat?

well, I tried to give this whole plug thing a try...and I just suck...took me two tries to get the plug in, presumably because the hole wasn't big enough the first time, and in the time it took me to wrestle this thing in, the cement already started to dry, further preventing its entry

so I widened the hole even more, made the plug nice and slimy with cement, and I think the larger hole with a lubricated plug allowed it to go in much easier.

only thing is - I twisted the tool before pulling it out, and the instructions said too pull it straight out without twisting...does that fuck it up?

Twisting it is fine. I don't even use cement on the rope plugs I use at work.

First you screw, then you bolt.

I'm amazed, so a piece of waxy rope, jammed into a hole, seals up the hole.

I'm buying a CO2 cartridge tomorrow...that should be easy enough to keep tucked under the rear seat

The ones we have at work are really sticky rubber--not waxy

Re: What if you get a flat?

The only flat I got was on location of a top secret road in northern NY, quite a ways from town. I rode the bike back to town (at the speed limit)(yeap, I'm nucking futs) and got a patch kit at aubuchons then road to the gas station to use the air hose. Had a beverage and was dragging knees again 15 mins later. I finally got to see a rope plug from the inside, the following year when that tire came off the bike.

CO2 cartridges are under pressure. Crazy pressure. I'm not sure leaving one under the tail on days like we've been having would be a good idea. The small pumps as mentioned before take awhile to inflate a bike tire, but I've seen them get the job done and the bike home

After having that flat a few years ago, I still don't carry a plug kit. Absolutely no room for it, unless I had the tank bag on.

CO2 cartridges are good for 120-130 degrees. Even then, they won't explode. The thinnest part is the cap you puncture so it would pop and shoot itself into what ever is laying near it. Wouldn't do to much damage under a tail imo but I'm also not willing to try it.

That's the mushroom style plug some prefer - the ropes are easier still.

No problem,I've got a mountain bike pump if I can't find a compressor I like.I know I can't just leave it to fate in the future,I'm lucky I haven't flatted so far.I just mounted a new set of Battlaxe S-20's,so chances of picking up a nail are high now

Yes, runs off of a normal cigarette lighter adapter.

Maybe I missed it, but why wouldn't you want to join the American Motorcyclist Association and get towing for ANY vehicle you own... for you and your entire family?

'Cause with my compressor and plug I was good to go in 20 minutes, as opposed to waiting for Billy Bob for who-knows-how-long?

Not knocking the AMA, they're a valuable voice for us... AND I'm a Life Member.

That's fine for a flat tire... but the coverage is for anything that happens... in anything you own (car, truck, trailer, bike, rv)

BTW, I would double check with AAA about the coverage for any vehicle as long as you're with it!!! I heard that they no longer do that and the vehicle has to be registered to you!

Re: What if you get a flat?

holy shit, even the half-ass, repeat attempt plug job I made worked...I pumped up the tire and went on a ride today, wheelie and all, and it actually held up.

Since I switched from runflats on my BMW to non runflats, I already bought the Slime "Power Spair flat" tire repair kit w' air compressor from Autozone on clearance:

MSRP $109.99, regular price at Autozone was $80, I got it for $39.99

it's too big to carry on the bike, but for home repairs it was great...inflated the tire within a minute or so

I do want one for the bike...I'll have to look around

just note that when the tire is flat, it sits a little lower, so if the bike is on a slight decline, it might fall off the kickstand to the right, and the frame will land on the bricks surrounding the garden, and the one rock in said garden will smash into the gas tank

Your years of supplications have finally convinced me. I've just joined AMA for the first time.

    from AAA website:

Roadside Assistance is available to the member whose name appears on the membership card while driving or as a passenger in his/her own car, rental car, a friend's car or similar situation. The service is not available to non-members driving a member's car, even if that person resides in the same household.
