    Frame Slider Install

My buddy needs some help drilling a hole in his plastics to install his left frame slider on an 05 ZX-6R. Anyone interested in helping? He'll give you a 6 pack of Sam's for the help.

Get some Pay-doh. Stuff a wad on the inside of the fairing about where the bolt and slider would go.

remove OEM frame bolt and replace with extended slider bolt without the slider attached. Do NOT screw in the extended bolt all the way; leave enough out to make an impression in the play-doh. Replace the fairing and push into the bolt to get the location in the play-doh.

Use a hole saw and cut from the inside out.

I would suggest using a hole saw that is at least 1/8" larger than your slider. I went 1/4" larger and have never regreted it.

Unfortunetly, knowing his and my luck, we will likely cut his fairing in half.

    Zip ties my friend....

It's a piece of cake really. He's already made the good decision and passed on the brackets.

    Where is he at?

If you can't do it by next weekend, and will pay the gate fee ($20 Sunday, 10 if GMD has some grandstand passes) and I'll do it beside our pit.

It will take me 10 minutes.

A hole saw is not a dremel. Do NOT dremel your fairings.

My method is pretty much the same as legalspeed's. Only I use dirty grease on the bolt/slider in question to mark the inside of the fairing...

Remove fairing / install slider / smear dirty grease or chain lube (just get it from your chain) on the head of slider / GENTLY fit fairing on (just enough so the grease/lube marks the fairing) / remove fairing & drill with SHARP, FINE TOOTH hole saw...

I'd suggest going 1/4" larger (diameter) on the hole 'cuz it'll give ya 1/8" of playroom around the entire slider. He'll appreciate that when he tries to remove & replace his fairing...

Lemme know if ya wanna bring it up and I'll walk ya through it...

i was very technical with mine. I put the bike on the rear stand with body work off and measured with a yadrstick to the center of the bolt head. Then put bodywork on and used previous measurments to mark bodywork and drilled a small hole first (double check my work) and then holesawed away. And yes go a little bigger on the hole
