    Front brake squeal

The front brakes on my 2017 CB100ex squall whenever I come to a stop.

    Most likely causes?

    Best fixes?

Bike has under 3,000 miles. If tried compressed air, which blows put black residue, but no impact on noise.

Brake squeal is most likely caused by the pads moving or oscillating in the calipers. Or you have contaminated pads. I would remove the pads and have a good look at them. PS brake dust is not good for you use brake clean and rags .

When I remove them, how can I tell if they’re oscillating or contaminated?

Take the pads out and on something flat like sheetrock or glass lay down a piece of sandpaper and remove any glaze by going back and forth with pads. Then on the pistons just where it makes contact with the pads put on some gasket cement and let it dry. Reinstall.
If you wanna spend $ they do sell disc brake quiet stuff at any car parts store.

Thanks. I didn’t want to just mask the problem with the disk brake quiet.

Would the gasket cement make it harder to remove the pads next time?

They won't be oscillating while they are in your hand but you can see glaze.

No. I did this many times when I was a auto mechanic years ago. In fact they didn't sell disc brake quiet products yet so that is what we used. The glaze causes the problem so you are sanding off the root cause of the problem. Not really masking it.

I was wondering if there would be some telltale markings on the back of the pad from oscillating against the piston.

It will have a shiny ring where it was making contact but I never really thought about it. I would just fix them and it always went away.

Not sure what type of system your Honda uses to hold the pads in? If you have metal springs makes sure they are not damaged in anyway ,also if they slide on pins make sure those are clean also. scotch brite pads and wd40 works great on them. Check your rotors for damage as well if you picked up a pebble or sand your rotors may be scored.

A little never seize on all touching surfaces. The pins that hold the pads in I usually coat with a thin layer. Try hat usually stops it.

    Re: Front brake squeal

They sell little packets of brake paste at Autozone. A thin coat anywhere the pads touch the caliper (not where the pads touch the rotor) should help.

+1 on the sandpaper/glass trick too.

What's the difference between a bolt and a screw?
First you screw, then you bolt.
