    Front Caliper Spring Pads...Necessary?

How necessary are the spring pads that sit inside of the calipers? I know a few racers that do not run them and the Beringers on my R1 do not have any such part.

Can you safely run the calipers without the spring pads? What do you risk damaging/wearing faster without them installed?

    Thanks up front.

    Re: Front Caliper Spring Pads...Necessary?

I do not have any in my race bike.......doesn't seem to be any difference in performance or use. I think that they are on the street better suited to keep a little more heat and water/dirt out of the area...

They are there to reduce noise. They keep the pads from shaking around and also absorb some of the squealing.

"You don’t need to tell me the horror story about your uncle’s buddy who wiped out his chopper while drag racing at some hooligan rally. That just makes me wish I were talking to your uncle’s buddy instead of you. He sounds pretty cool."

This, I don't go through pads that often so it's not a big deal.

Don't you use full floating rotors? You shouldn't use those springs with full floaters.

IMO - They just keep the pads from flopping around a bit. I usually toss them the first time they give me trouble.
