    More fuel Issues

Took the ice screws out of the xr 70ies today. went to fire them up, and both of them will start but die out , and never idle.
The good news is that the carbs are much easier to get at and work on.

Perhaps I should take stock in carb cleaner, I have a feeling this isn't going to be the end of it.

    I still have the
    roto tiller
    weed wacker
    chainsaw
    tractor
to get running for the season.

I am definately going to drain the fuel out of the snow blower for the summer, assuming that it ever warms up around here, who knows it may still snow.

Sounds like the fuel you used may of been "off". I'm curious what could have gone wrong. I've left untreated gas in my bikes much longer than you have (by months) and no issues. Something had to be wrong with the fuel.

My thoughts exactly the common denomenator between all the machines was that they were all topped off for the winter from the same gas can in the garage, and I am pretty sure I had the stabil in it.
The only thing I can think is it was either bottom of the barrel from the gas station, or when the gas attendant filled the can, he set the spout down on a dirty surface and that dirt/sand got into the can and those small particles are clogging the jets.

Either way I have purchased a new can just in case.

I have also put all of the bad gas back in the original can , probably use it for bon fires.

I put inline fuel filters on the dual sports and will do the same on the 70ies.
Hoping that those would clog before the carb and for $1.99 they are much easier to change.
The tractor has one that I will change out and see if that helps.

The filters will only work if it's particles. I just can't see that many particles being in the suspension for that long to affect all the bikes the same way. Sounds more chemical to me.

Yeah, I left fuel in the KDX all winter. Never even turned the tap off. It runs fine. One trick I've learned is to run some potent race fuel through in the spring. It can dissolve and carry away the deposits...

    False alarm , I think.
both bikes were acting like there "bigger brothers", but I figured I would do some maintenence on them first then see about the carbs.

Opened the float drain, let it flow for a bit and shut the fuel off to run them out. figured if there was any moisture or small particles in there, hopefully they would flush out.

    Changed oil

    cleaned the air filters

new plugs. ( both of them were dark and had a small amout of oil on them)
there seems to be a lot of blow by on these minis. or so I have read on other forums.
the did fire up , I adjusted the idle and the air mix screws on both and they seem to be okay now.

Both were bought used from 2 different people, so wh knows what sort of care was taken.

so for now I get away with out pulling 2 more carbs.
