    gas resistant foam

Anyone know where I can get some gas resistant foam or a rubber O Ring for a gas cap or something. I tried AutoZone and shit and none of them had anything.

I think the hot fix is to remove the cap, goop it up with permatex black, and reinstall. The trick is where to put the goop.

I think my leak is between the cap and mounting place. So I cant permatex it unless I never want to fill up the tank again.

Know any roofers? I've used scraps from single ply membrane roofing cut into an appropriate sized donut.

Aah, inn that case, Jon is onto a better solution. Though I think some guys use permatex to build up a "gasket" on the base and have luck.

not sure if it works for your application but a $9 sheet of gasket material can be had at many auto parts stores.

If you go to a auto parts store with a helpful counterperson tell them that you need a large O ring and you wish to go thru their gas cap selection. Then if you find the right size just purchase the cap and take the O ring off. The caps cost about from 7 to 14 bucks.

    Re: gas resistant foam

I ended up using a piece of the rubber kick plate stuff commercial places use to protect their walls. Cut it into an oring. Not sure how well its gonna end up working since the gas cap is near impossible to get on now.

Id really like to stop messing around and buy one of these, but they've been backordered forever, I dont know if they're ever coming out again.

    Fuel door leak fix

I posted this under another users question but maybe it can help others.

I fixed mine pretty easily by placing an O-Ring under the rubber gasket. 029 Viton and they can be acquired all over the place.
    Viton is pretty chemically resistant.

Here is a link to an example place to get them.
    http://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/118/3483/=jh7ylp

Mine leaked so bad when I got it that if the tank had anymore than 3/4 of a tank of fuel it would spew everywhere when I just accelerated hard let alone put the front wheel skyward.

Just be careful installing it as you want it somewhat centered for the intitial install after that it will stay put. This completely fixed all my fuel door problem.
