    Gasket help

I'm taking apart the water pump on my EX to replace a leaky gasket. The way the water pump is set up, there's two plates requiring two gaskets. I've got the water pump removed from the bike but i can't get the two plates of the pump separated.

    any hints?

here's a picture for reference - http://www.ronayers.com/fiche/400_01...water_pump.bmp - you can see there's an extra "spacer plate" (#13227) that fits between the pump & the engine case... that's what i'm trying to remove from the pump to replace gasket #11009a

I've been trying to kinda wedge em apart w/ a skrewdriver but i don't wanna gouge out the surfaces of the plates.

Does it look like someone used RTV Silicone on the gasket?

    Gasket help

fixed the link... it's a stock gasket, not sealant.

    uuu

Are the dowels holding the parts together? or did you pop those out already? If they're already removed, maybe try using a razor blade (carefully) to pry apart the bad gasket from the plate. if the dowels are still in there, and protruding out enough to grab, take a cloth and a pair of pliers and twist em out

Is part 92049 a bearing ? It looks like it may be and the bearing race is in 13227 and then on part 1307. Did you try to rap it with a rubber mallet? I wouldnt use the razorblade , you might damage the cast parts. You can shave them fairly easily with a razorblade.

    yea

Thats a good point about the razor even if you are carefull. I was gonna suggest a rubber mallet, another good point As far as the razor, if all else failed , Iwouldn't throw out the idea of just etching enough of the old gasket on adjacent sides to get better leverage with the screw driver you were using. ( Adjacent sides assuming the dowels weren't coming out, so you could lift either side little by little)
EDIT: Dhuze got me thinking, The bearing that he was talking about, is there anything threading through the center that could be holding the parts together???...ie:parts 13107------>59256 . what about part 132, does that bolt act as a clamp into the housing, or is it just a drain bolt???
