Re: The (not so) Great Gixxer Rebuild
NOTE: before the new racer was installed on the stem, the lower triple was cleaned thoroghly, then covered them in grease that looked like ecto-plasma
Hey Garage Guy, here's a picture just for you. This is what a REAL garage should look like. Built for normal height people, and full of gixxers (plus a 636) :poke:
Hope this garage picture is high res enough for your standards.

What's a bearing racer? Is this a new version of benchracing I haven't heard of? :poke:

Re: The (not so) Great Gixxer Rebuild
just called RJ's. the bike wont be done till tomorrow, but got most of the tuning done. found the problem why the plugs were so nasty. said the PCIII wasnt turning on till the throttle was at 30%, which is a setting I didnt notice when I installed it. guess I really should have done more reading on it before I installed a used one I got off eBay
good news is he said it came out nicely, and will be ready for pickup tomorrow morning. :woot:
bad news is I have plans tomorrow night, so I wont be riding till Wednesday.

Yup, you gotta sync the Throttle position sensor up with the PCIII...OOOps!

ya, like i said. i bought this used off eBay. bike had some crazy map on it, that my bike wouldnt even stay on. when i installed it, i had to hold the throttle while sending a DynoJet map to the PCIII. once i mapped it, i never touched it again. probably should have looked at the settings a bit more, but that was my fault for rushing to install and ride.

Re: The (not so) Great Gixxer Rebuild
Usually I think they match the throttle settings to the PCIII at about 12 different throttle positions... like 0 2 5 10 20 30 40 50 60 80 100 percent or something like that.
Should be good to go for the 9/29-30 track days when you're done.
Oh wait...

Oh really, you've had enough Jim? Well in that case I'll stop. I am very sensitive to your feelings and wouldn't want to upset you, or say things that might vex or distress you.

Naw it's just for closed and full throttle.
Sometimes you gotta peg the throttle for a milli second while the bike is running for it to latch to it...No biggie.

Really?
When I had mine mapped he tuned the a/f mixture at all rpms in 50rpm increments for around 10 or 12 different throttle positions....? That's why the PCIII has a wiretap to the TPS wire on the ECU, right?
Maybe I'm misunderstanding you

Yup, but the intitial setup requires the PCIII to know closed, and full throttle values 1st.
Once that is done, the tuning can take place at those rpm increments, and throttle positions.

Re: The (not so) Great Gixxer Rebuild
ok, so many of you have seen the RJ's thread with my results. But for those doubters, here's my dyno sheets
8/2/2008 @ Sea Coast's charity dyno run event. 94.49hp @ 118MPH in 4th gear
Attachment 29801
8/18/2008 @ RJ's. 95.82hp base, 103.91hp in 4th gear, 107.51hp in 6th gear @ 150MPH
Attachment 29799
Torque 42.90 base, 45.78 after tuning
Attachment 29800
very happy with the results, since I was hoping to break 100hp. Awesome work at RJ's and I would recommend them again to anyone looking for a PCIII tune.

Re: The (not so) Great Gixxer Rebuild
looks good...better to have a smooth powerband with a couple less hp then the other way aorund

i could care less about hp, it's fast enough for me. i just wanted something a bit more respectible like 100. but gaining 15hp on this run is amazing.
side note: i know everyone will say "different dyno, different results". I beleive the Sea Coast Dyno and RJ's Dyno are very close. I upgraded to Iridium plugs and cleaned my air filter before going to RJ's dyno, so that 2hp difference might explain why.

Re: The (not so) Great Gixxer Rebuild
Jim I am not going to be a douche to you for once, and only once.
If I were you I would be happy with the HP you have and work a little more on the TQ. I will take a little less HP just to have more TQ, maybe that's why I bought a Duc:dunno:
Looks like you are making some decent progress with it. When are we going to have our "obnoxiously loud bike" competition?

well i was waiting for this dyno run before posting up my Sea Coast #'s specifically to avoid your ball busting. i'm happy with what i have now, and could care less about more power. i have new SS rear lines sitting on my table that need to go on. Got a new(er) front tire to put on when my front pads arrive too. Besides that, I'm done with mods on this bike, besides a brembo or gafler wave rotor set. the tuning here wasnt for hp gains, but to make the air/fuel ratios where they should be.
and surprisingly, my pipe is quieter now :D

:spit: I wouldn't have busted your balls that bad. I thought you were pulling low to mid 80's the way you were bitching out about posting them.

Ya, having the bike run smooth would be better than just grabbing at some peak numbers. Since you are upgrading the brakes why not go with a Brembo MC?

Beat it, base model Duc owner... :twofinger:
