question about brakes and brake hose

I'm in the process of swapping the front end of my track bike and in doing so, I'd like to move the front brake fluid reservoir from the top of the clip on near the front brake master to the front of the top triple on the throttle side. The rubber hose that runs from the fluid res to the master isn't long enough, so I need a new longer piece. I have seen this done before, but being my first time doing it I'm not quite sure what to use or where to get it. I stopped in my local moto shop and they can only get stock pieces, they don't have a roll of this hose that I could buy a foot or two from. I have seen pictures of this done to other track/race bikes and the tubing in the picture was clear with a blue tint, it looked like urethane rubber tubing, is this safe to use (won't brake fluid deteriorate this tubing), or is there something else that I'm missing? Thanks a bunch everyone.

Re: question about brakes and brake hose

its a bit expensive but you need to buy hose that is specifically designed for brake fluid otherwise it will just eat through... so no buying from your local aquarium store!

pm degsy, he got some for the race bike, im sure he could point you in the right direction

just wondering, why are you looking to relocate the resevoir?

Re: question about brakes and brake hose

Thanks for the info Denno, I appreciate it. I know it's only a track bike (I'm no racer by any means, but really enjoy my track days), my reason for moving it is just to get it less exposed in the event of a get off. Plus I just kind of like the idea, to each his own...

Degsy drags thread kicking and screaming back on topic.

Tygon is what you need. Click here to go to Mcmaster-Carr's page for it.

I can't remember whether you need 5466K13 or 5466k14 but if you order a foot of each, you'll spend less than $8 or so delivered by tomorrow morning.

Re: question about brakes and brake hose

Jeff, I'll buy off you what you don't use. I'm gonna replace the solid black angle bend hose on my clutch & brake resevoirs with clear tube... I like the looks of that better & plus I can see if the fluid is getting old.

    how it is
    how I want it

I'll keep you in mind Pete....

Oh by the way, nice Touno. Were you running that at TTD last year? I seem to remember someone tearing around on one.

Thanks dude. Yeah I brought her up once or twice. I wasn't so much "tearing" as i was "tippy toeing" though.
