    sprocket and chain info

I just bought an 03 gsxr600 and the chain is loose and rusty. Ive been told that the chain is no good so im gonna order an new one. The guy i bought the bike off of put on a 50 rear sprocket, which im not sure how many teeth he went up because I dont know what the stock rear sprocket size is for my bike?

And if possible is there anybody in the Taunton area that might be able to install the chain and sprocket for me? i also have to bleed my back brakes and would appreiate some hints on how to do so. any suggestions?

stock 01-03 GSXR 600 is 45T in the rear. so +5 is pretty much a stunt/wheelie sprocket, since he probably went -1 in the front too.

i can help with the brake bleeding, but chances are you'll end up in Degsy's garage when i'm there anyways.

I thought 50 sounded big. Wonder if it's got a stock front... that wouldn't be too bad.

Looks like stock rear is a 45 tooth. Chain and sprockets are an easy fix and bleeding brakes is not too bad either. I'm in Granby Ct if you want help. Kinda far for you tho.

    Re: sprocket and chain info

    01-03 GSX-R stock gearing:
chain: 525 o-ring RK chain with clip-on master
    front sprocket: SunStar steel 16T
    rear sprocket: SunStar steel 45T

including the 5% - 7% factory error on Suzuki bikes, your speedometer is off 17.5% with stock front sprocket, or 20.0% off with a -1 front sprocket. go at a "safe" speed where you can test out what your error % on the speedo. Or to be exact, take the front cover off and count the teeth on your front sprocket

    Re: sprocket and chain info

Yea his chain is all rusted and it is looser than my prom date. The bike was kept outside under a tarp. I tired to read the # of the sprocket an I'm 99.9% sure it said 50. Which would mean its +5 teeth. I called around and it's about $90 for bettencourts/Brockton Cycle to install the chain for him. Anyone thats willing to come down & help,as soon as the new chain & sprocket comes in, would be greatly appreciated. Beers are on Eric obviously LOL
