    Lowering 03 CBR 600RR

Ok everyone, I know this topic probably gets posted quite a bit but being a newbie to the site I wanted to hear some comments.

I just bought an 03 Honda CBR 600RR and i am only 5'5. I have read about lowering links etc. and hear different opinions regarding handling and whatnot. I definitely would feel much more comfortable with the bike lowered maybe 3". Does anyone know any suspension experts in the area if i were to go an alternate route from lowering links?

I have also heard that you can play around with the actual suspension without adding links. Is this possible and if so, how easy and safe is it. I am mostly looking into speaking with a suspension expert so that I can get the job done right and the safest way without taking away from the performance of the bike.

Any info/ suggestions would b greatly appreciated.

How long have you been riding? I'm 5'6" and ride a 05 600RR
    at stock height.

At first it made me nervous riding it. But after about a year on
the bike basically I have accepted just tippy toe-ing if I have to have
both feet down. The main thing to accept is dont try to have both feet
down ! When you come to stop go to left or right and just lean over
slightly till your foot is down. After awhile you won't even care that you
can't flat foot your bike. I'm not saying that lowering it is bad. But
to expect to lower it 3 inches is alot and that will definitely change
    how your bike handles.

I'd say ride another year. If you still are not comfortable, get a cruiser.

I think you'll get used to it.

Take up fishing if you can't ride a bike.

Seriously, WTF with the whole lowering thing? You do realize they already lower that bike from the factory so people who NEED to touch flatfoot can ride it on the street. To handle really well it needs to be RAISED, not lowered.

I dunno, buy a little 250 cruiser or something? That or learn to ride. I know 5'0" women who can ride a cbr600.

Just my $0.02c. You hit a raw nerve with me. I hate this new lowering craze. Back in the day you had to learn to ride or suck it up.

    That too...

I'm only 5'8" and my r6 has the highest seat height of all the big 4 supersports these days... I just deal with it.

I'm not going to compromise handling, suspension travel, or get a shittier bike just so I can put my feet flat on the ground. That would put the ghey meter off the charts:

WOAH DEGSY!!! It's not a lowering craze. If you read my intro to this forum I said I am a new rider (NEVER RIDDEN BEFORE). This is why I am asking opinions on whether I should lower it or not to feel more comfortable. How bout I ride and take up fishing...maybe golfing too while i'm at it.

Thanks for the help everyone who didn't take the questions to heart

All joking aside Degsy is one of the few people on here that what he says (mostly) is the best answer you can get.

You don't need to use * if you want to swear

And if you want a list on how to do it wrong I could wright a book, so please believe me when I say DON'T lower your bike

do the right thing - listen to degsy

if you want to ride, i mean really ride, you dont want to lower it.

i undertand your question but this is the answer - i hope you keep that nice bike happy and normal height, you'll be a better rider for it

Good choice Nick. You won't even think about the height after you've ridden on it a few times.

Why do you need to put your foot down anyway? Bikes don't need to stop for lights or stop signs, and in traffic just split the lanes. When you get to where your going, just hop off while its still rolling. Problem solved! :

You are def making the right choice.

HAHAHA thanks hamma...like ive stated before i am a brand new rider ( i guess some people either don't care or just don't absorb what i wrote) but either way I was looking for opinions on the matter, not to be shit on. I respect everyones opinion and I know mostly everyone here has a shitload more experience than me and thats why i posted it on here before i actually did something.

I posted the lowering thread right after looking at the bike for the first time and yes I was uncomfortable with the height (mainly due to being a new rider), but after getting it home and messing around with it I realized it's not as bad as i thought.

Heh, I wasn't trying to jump down your throat over this. It's just there are many people now buying 600 sportbikes and going straight out and lowering (ruining) them. It just gets on my nerves, I don't know why, I should just ignore it.

Anyway, persevere with it. You'll learn to ride it just fine without lowering it if you take your time and use the "one foot down" technique.

BTW, I did lots of work on the bike you just bought. Like the frame slider install?

the bike runs great and looks great as well. I understand what you're saying about the lowering thing. I didn't know how big of an issue it was, but now I know. I do appreciate the heads up on it, as this was the type of info I wanted to hear when I posted in the first place.

sometimes i do wish i could flatfoot. should have drank lots of milk when growing up.

don't some bikes have higher center gravity? so on these bikes you could lower couple inch and wouldn't notice it i would think.
