Okay, here's the deal. I recently bought a used Akropovic exhaust system off ebay for my '01 suzuki GSXR 600. I am experiencing an exhaust leak where the header meets the engine. I tried tightening up all of the flange bolts but that did not help. So now I am thinking I just installed it wrong.
Is anyone familiar with the proper way of installing one of these things? If all else fails I will take it to a dealer, but I am trying to do it myself to save some $$$.
I'll provide food and![]()
for anyone who wants to take a look at it

edit - do NOT over tighten those bolts!!!You're always supposed to put in a new gasket when you take off the exhaust. They only cost about $6

thanks for the input. I will have to take it apart and get new gaskets. Perhaps I need new (longer) bolts? because when I had the old gaskets (ones from stock exhuat setup) in, I was not able to get the bolts to thread in. That's the reason I was wondering why I had these strange metal coils as extra parts. I know it's not a good thing when you have left over parts but I thought I would start it up just to see.
As for overtightening the bolts, I used a torque wrench and brought them to spec. in the manual. One was pretty loose.
Thanks for the help guys
You have to crush the gasket thats why you need a new one. Make sure you get the old one out and possition the new one right then when you tighten it they compress making the seal.

ah I see, thanks for the help. I'll give this a try.
I got the new gaskets and did just what you said. It's all good now. I guess I was afraid to crush the gaskets. The stock bolts fit fine. I must say the exhaust sounds Sweeeeeet now!Originally posted by dhuze
