Hey guys,
My brother just picked up a 99' FZR600 for $200. It was sitting in a garage for a undetermined amount of time until the beginning of the winter, where it was left outside.
It only has 5000 miles, but this poor thing has had a rough life.
We removed the airbox, changed the oil/filter, dropped in a new battery, lubed the pistons with some PB blaster, put it in gear and forced the motor to turn over. Disconnected the fuel line to the carbs and drained what I could, and drained the line coming to the fuel pump. I put in some fresh gas, seafoam, and some octane booster. I also removed the muffler, as the midpipe was dented all to hell.
Anyway, when I try to start it, it wants to catch. It will stumble and catch, then die. Usually with a spectacularly loud blast from the exhaust. There also appears to be some smoke, and sometimetimes popping coming out of the carbs when I'm cranking it over, not everytime, but...
Anyway. I don't know diddly about carbs. Why won't this damn thing start? I can smell gas coming out of the carbs... I did move the "vacuum slides" manually, and turn the throttle alot. Could I have flooded it? Fouled my plugs?
She wants to live again!!
I know I'm a new guy, any help would be appreciated.
Alex
