    Pulling apart 94+ EX500 Forks

So I have the axle out, the top cap, the dampening rod and the spring out. I also have the allen head bolt out on the bottom of the fork. She still won't seperate the tub from the leg. What gives?

No, I don't have the book for the 94+, only the pre-94. ARG!

not sure- I have the pre-94 manual as well.
guess we'll figure it out today eventually- when I first brought my forks to Peter- He had them apart in 30 seconds. If I remember, you really need to give it hell to seperate.

Shit, that's what I forgot: hell!

Just doesn't slide off, you can feel it hitting something in there...Rather than just pound it like some hot 18 year old, I figured I'd ask first.

There might be snap rings on top of the seals. Pop off the dust caps and take a look...

Clayton you will have a snap ring holding in the oil seal and the slider underneath he dust seal.

Once you get the snap ring out it will take some force to get the tubes out of the lowers. I usually put the lower in a vice with two blocks of wood so you don't fuck up the lowers. Then compress the fork legs all the way and pull that fucker up hard. It'll take a few good whacks to get it out. Maybe 5 to 10. If they have been in a while spray some penetrating oil down past the snap ring.

I had to heat the tube up in one of the hawk legs to get it out. Not much but just enough to break the bond of the two metals.

You should replace the bushings while you are in there as well as the seals.

You also don't need a fancy seal driver either. You can either use the old seal and a punch on top of the new seal or a piece of pvc pipe.

Call me if you got questions.
