    Kickstand Wobbly / Loose

So my kickstand's bolt hole (the frame hole) has become widened and worn down so that when I lean the bike's weight on the stand, the stand hits the ground, then the bike leans another several unnerving degrees. I'm worried that not only with the hole slowly continue to grow, but each degree more it tips, more and more weight is being put on it. Probably going to snap eventually, and the stand will punch through even quality pavement. I've started using a 2x4 as a kick stand platform to keep the bike more upright, and I'd say it sits at just about the right angle with that extra inch and a half of wood.

I took it apart and it looks like it could be sleeved. Is that the best fix? Does anyone have a recommendation on where to source sleeves, and what type of metal I should go with? Is this something that should be welded in place, or can I use it as a bushing?

Just my luck that the kickstand hole is part of the frame, not a replaceable part.

Get a new/used kickstand off eBay.

Sorry, I messed that one up : The issue isn't the kickstand itself, but rather the mounting hole on the frame. I'll edit my post to fix that.

I may still need to get a new/used stand once the frame hole is squared away since I think it too has become slightly misshaped.

Can you reach the back of the bolts on the other side?
If yes, drill the frame and the kickstand out (it'll be easier if you only take one bolt out at a time) and use the next size larger bolt/nut/washers.

Lean it against a wall. Seriously, post a pic. Could you weld a washer on each side of the hole to take up the slack?

I'll get some pics up of my actual bike tonight. In the mean time, Google Images visual aide :

Chip, I'm not sure I completely understand your question but yes the backside is exposed, and I can drill through the frame hole. My concern is how that would work out with the kickstand. Note in the diagram picture (link to bikebandit) the threaded hole on the kickstand, and the widened bolt. I'm guessing they went with this design for strength. Do you think I can get the same strength out of a drilled hole and a stand bolt set up? That's why I was thinking sleeve the frame.

Drill the frame hole a little bigger then give SprintPoser some dimensions and have him machine a collar/bushing.

Ok so hopefully these help some? Please try not to cringe too much at the grime. You can see there is fairly good access, and that the hole is no longer a circle.

    Re: Kickstand Wobbly / Loose

I would have a local shop weld it up, grind it flat on both sides then re-drill it. Sleeving it without welding the sleeve could lead to problems if it came loose.

    Re: Kickstand Wobbly / Loose

The hole does not look like it has been enlarged much. Are you sure the play is not due to the gap opening on the kickstand combined with the wear on the faces on the boss on the frame? I'd try shimming it with washers and if that does not fix it, put a sleeve in it (but leave the washers too). You can get bronze bushings at good hardware stores to use as a sleeve. It's very easy material to work with and can be cut and drilled without much fuss. Using a sleeve and washers will arrest the wear on the boss, and I think that should be priority one. I would not remove any material from the boss unless you plan to build it back up.
