    Re: Loctite on Sprocket bolts?

I had 2 sprocket bolts loosen up on me. I was cleaning up some chain lube and was shocked to find one backed out a little and another was not near torque spec. From then on they see the Loc.

    Re: Loctite on Sprocket bolts?

I facked a swingarm by not locktiting the sprocket bolts on my racebike. I think the chain came off also.

Definitely blue locktite at least. It's hard to figure out what the hell is going on when those puppies back out.

I don't think I put loctite on the cush studs, but then again the sprocket nuts on my bike are locknuts...

    Re: Loctite on Sprocket bolts?

I safety the front sprocket. It has 2 bolts that usually no taper to them. Ease of drilling.
My rear has taper to the bolts so not as easy to drill. + you would eat up a lot of safty wire and time making sure every thing is just right.

    Re: Loctite on Sprocket bolts?

I know red loctite is called for on sprockets on dirt bikes. Once they come loose you can throw them out as they will never stay tight again. They get ruined in a hurry. Same goes for a shift bolt, but i only use blue on thet.

I reccommend using a torgue wrench and applying the proper foot pounds of torgue as shown in your service manual, but that's just me.

And adding a little light duty loc-tite to each bolt couldn't hurt either.
