    Track Days and BRAKES

With all the heavy braking that occurs in Loudon on our bikes , how often should the Fluid be changed ?

As well as the pads ?

After a few runs around and them SCREEMING for mercy , should they be changed out as well ?

The garage is warm so its tinkering time .

4 bikes to get ready for the season . 3 really , the Duc was just a rape victim from BCM ( joking )

The way I look at it, changing brake fluid is easy so why not do it a couple of times per season. In regards to pads, I just keep an eye on the wear bars. I've never pulled apart brakes before but think I'll do some reading up on it and try doing cleaning up the calipers before the April TTDs.

    It all depends on:
    What brand you are using
    Compound within the brand
    Bike weight
    Bike speed
    How you brake

I've got Pads from Freinage moto - plaquettes de frein Carbone lorraine and have them for 2 race seasons and a full year of trackdays and I still have more than 1/2 of the pad available.

I have also used EBC HH and have gon thur them in 2-3 races.

For fluid. I hear once a year is a good rule of thumb. Althought I don't quite follow that. I just changed my 929's fluid after 8 years and the race bike after 2 years.

Brake fluid I try to do once a year.
and then only the front... the rear since it doesnt
get heated up as much i go maybe 2 years.
I use Motul RBF600, seems like good stuff to me.

I use EBC HHs and they have gone a year and 5-6 track days
and still look good to me.

Yeah I'll do the fronts about once a season... Don't think i've ever bothered w/ the rear but the longest I've owned a bike is 4 years.

Yeah, I do fluid once a year, or maybe even once every two years.

Brake pads I generally change out every 10 trackdays or so. I have noticed that wearing your brakes about half way is a good amount.

When you put fresh pads on, from pads that are half worn, you'll generally see a big gain.

    Re: Track Days and BRAKES

Fluid once a year regardless...I use Spectro DOT4

Pads at 30% to 50% pad remaining...I use EBC HH

One thing you should note is brake fluid attracts moisture over time.

With that said, make sure when you flush your brake fluid that you're replacing it with never-been-opened brake fluid.

Will all this help that terrible grinding noise I've been hearing for the last 2 seasons?

Speaking of... my 04 just got new fluid. Pads are Galfers HH . Been solid and don't see any reason to change. Would definitely buy another set. Combination works pretty well with the Brembo MC.
