Mixture Problems and RPMs out of control

I've got a 2004 Ninja 250 and from what I hear it's typical for them to be cold-blooded. Unfortunately, this is a little worse than that. If I pull up to a stop sign, etc from medium to high speeds while giving it no gas and the clutch disengaged it will just stall right out then not start for a few seconds. Also, once it gets hot it will idle at about 3k rpm as opposed to its 1.3k while cold. Sometimes it will even stall while choked while I'm jputting my helmet on. Any thoughts or help? This is really getting frustrating.

Oh thanks for the link, I think I underestimated what would be kicking around about 250s. I grew up by St. Adelaide's and the West Memorial. Also lived by the skatepark downtown for a while. You? I move a lot lol. I've got no tools here and I've never played with carbs before, I think I'm going to need to take it home from UMass and get some help. What kind of cleaners and parts is it going to take to do this do you suppose? (new gaskets, rubber nipples, anything?) Is this something I could do alone with no experience but with patience?

No kidding I use to church at St A's but I went to Burke Elementary down off Birch st ...Home was on Plymouth rd ... yeah I haven't lived there since 1990

Yeah you can do this with just a cheapo wal mart tool kit that has sockets and a couple of screw drivers. Just a couple of cans of carb and choke cleaner and some compressed air (canned if ya don't have a real compressor) if your jets are that clogged, let them soak in the C&C for a day.

Re: Mixture Problems and RPMs out of control

I read the other link but I'm not sure where my problem stops and where the OP's picks up. So I just remove the carb and spray it down/soak it for a while? There was a lot of other talk in the other post. Seems like there's more to it or am I wrong? Nothing gets me heated more than making things worse when I'm trying to fix something. (edit: yeah vacuum pistons, petcock, jets and carb syncing sounds risky)

so you know mike from hampshire right? imkindafkedup is his name here

the only thing you could really mess up is the bowl height ....just treat them gently like a sore set of cojonees and you've got nothing to worry about. I recommend to not completely remove the carbs from the bike ..just remove them from the engine intake & airbox boots. the carb combo will slide right out of the side of the engine area. in order to do this you need to unscrew the forward side of the air box. it is pretty flexible so don't be afraid to manhandle it a bit.

...and when all else fails....I live not too far away...
although the last 250 gave us fits, we had to machine carb parts for it....Someone was in there before me, and I had to "undo" everything first.

TLR! I'd greatly appreciate a hands on walkthrough if you're talking to me. Are you free this weekend by chance? I'll buy you a 6-pack of your choosing and it would really make me more comfortable with the process having a second opinion while I'm taking it apart.

I may be able to get to you..Got another 2 projects going, but if you tell me where you are at, I can swing by.

Degsy has all my tools at his place, but I hope he'll get back to me, so I can finish up with him before the weekend.

I'll be at 73 Harrison Ave from Friday night to Sunday late afternoon. I've got lots of tools there just none at school if that's something you're worried about. I'd really appreciate the help if you get the chance. I can be reached at 231 233 4107. How long will the whole thing take do you suppose? I'll pick up the C&C when I get back.

OK..I'm in Taunton working on a Bike Saturday, then off to another on Sunday.

My sync tool is in Taunton now, but I get out of work at 12 noon on Friday.
I can swing by around maybe 1pm, and take a looksee... You are in Peabody right?

    Things keep changing!
Got other obligations to deal with first, so I think I'm not gonna be able to swing by....Gonna have to play this one by ear I guess..

Re: Mixture Problems and RPMs out of control

Nice to meet you too, that sucks though. I continued to hit that same stretch of 116 for about 2 hours after we split up. I really got a chance improve my riding since that road was just so perfect. Once my bike gets heated up it doesnt have these problems so at least I don't have to miss days like the other day.
