MV Augusta F4 Coolant Leak HELP

    Posted for a Friend,

My buddy Ozzy, playtwo, just had a slider installed to his 2012 MV Augusta F4. His mechanic called to let him now that the bike is leaking coolant from the frame slider bolt. The only thing on the topic I found was that he may have pierced the coolant jacket: Leaking coolant from engine bolt hole? - MVAgusta.net

Anybody here have any suggestions? For starters I told him to stay put, check the oil and not start the bike. Any ideas? Easy/Hard fix? anybody had this issue before?

Any help would be truly appreciate. He is trying to ride NYST with us on Sunday, but more importantly I think that he does not want to loose his engine.

    Thank you!!

I'd put some teflon tape on the bolt threads and just keep an eye on it, if it were me.

For the love of God if you use this advice, replace the coolant with water.
That said, its probably leaking behind the bolt anyway (I would think)

Thanks guys. He ended up taking it to cycle 128... apparently the Augusta mechanic is out this week. 150/labour hour I am told. Ouch. One expensive frame slider install. I am hoping that he will figure what's going on before the weekend and make it to NYST with us.

It's totaled. Tell him to drop it off at my place and I'll find a scrap yard that'll take it.

Ouch. Mechanic isn't going to be able to do anything special. Either seal the end of the machined hole (or threads) really good or he's looking at buying a new cylinder. Might be able to plug the end of the hole w/ JB Weld or similar. Then cut the bolt down a bit to avoid bottoming out.

I assumed he was already running it with water because they are going to the track with it, but yea run it with water. Coolant is very slippery when it gets leaked on your tires, ask me how I know ( fucking Kawasaki putting a coolant reservoir right above the back tire)

Lots of automotive engines have intake manifold and head bolts that go into the water jackets, Clean threads and silicone or teflon will seal it up just fine, just don't overtighten it because the sealer lubricates the threads.
