At Thompson on Sunday, my SV shut-off on me while braking/downshifting into 1. This was immediately after bouncing off the limiter for about a second prior to hitting the braking zone. I tried to restart it as I rolled around T2 and was getting an FI light. I rolled off into the grass and tried starting it, kept getting an FI light. I could hear the starter working, it just wouldnt kick over.
Once I got back to the pits, the bike fired up first try. I checked the tip sensor, battery terminals, looked for any obvious signs of motor destruction, and didnt see anything. I thought it was making some strange noises, but it turned out to just be the steering dampler rattling in its bracket. I skipped a session looking everything over and listening to the motor, then went back out for two sessions with no issues.
Thoughts?
One thing that may have been a factor, it has slipped into false neutrals one or two times in the past after rolling off hard from the limiter. I can't remember the sequence of events perfectly in this case, but I remember thinking it felt like I had hit a false neutral as I was braking into 1 (suddenly LESS engine braking, not more). I remember then thinking to click up from a false neutral just to be safe, but I was going very slow at this point as I was coming around T1. I may have shifted into 6th and then let out the clutch going ~30 mph. I suppose this could have stalled the bike, but it doesn't explain the FI light and inability to start it after rolling around 2 and into the grass.
