Just bought the bike used. Rode it about 150 miles and the oil light came on. Bike has 3500 total miles. Tried unscrewing the filter and letting air out. No luck. So I changed the oil and filter. Light is still on. Where's the oil sensor on this thing? Call me if you have ideas. Would the 1 inch bar risers I put on affect the oil light? Shouldn't. 617 512 5654 - thanks!!! Neil

The ex mafio will know the answers........
Sounds like you have a bad oil pressure sender unit.
Don't ask why I ask, but is your headlight ok?
Had that happen last week, but the oil pump was air locked, unscrewing it solved the problem. +1 on what degsy said.
Headlight is ok. Tried unscrewing the filter again after the oil change with it running. Oil trickled out. Still on. I will go to the local Kaw dealer tomorrow and see if they have an oil sender unit. The funny thing is having it fail with so few miles. 3500
On many bikes they are oil level sensors not pressure... not sure Kawi

Get out while you can
Find your own path
Have had it happen many times.
1. Fill with oil.
2. Remove Filter
3. Bump the starter 4-5 times till you get some good squirts of oil coming out.
4. Put on new filter.
5. Refill oil.
Fire her up, oil light should come off within 5 seconds.

I picked up my new bike back in April with 2 miles on it. While riding home the oil light started flashing.. I pulled over, check the oil level- it was fine. I gingerly rode it home. THe dealer came out and trailered it back to their dealership. They tested the oil pressure, it was fine so they replaced the oil pressure sending unit. 2k miles later it has never come back on... Guess the bike? - 2008 Ninja ZX6R. That oil pressure sending unit lasted literally 15 miles..Shit happens.
God bless the Chinese manufacturer I am sure they saved $.03 on that part

Well, the dealer took the bike back and they found that the oil pump failed. The cams were also damaged. They rebuilt it. They gave me a full trade to another EX500. Now if I can just get rid of the hesitation on the new/used one! I posted another thread about that today. I put some bar risers on it and it has plenty of motor.
GIve your dealer props sounds like they did the right thing

Now if I can just get the replacement to run without all the hesitation. Gonna replace the plugs and so far Sea Foam in the gas has not worked. Maybe I will spray some Gunk into the fuel line with it running and see if that works.
That is still carbureted ..correct ?
If so it may need a jet kit to be alive

Yeah it has carbs and I think lean jets that get clogged suck too. But also, people letting carbed bikes sit with gas in them is crazy too. All they needed to do is run the thing out of gas and drain the float bowls after putting some Stabil in the gas. How hard would that have been. Nice thing about Beemers, carbs hangin right out there. I'll drain the bowls and the tank and add some fresh gas and see if it is better. Might be the Sea Foam is too strong a mix. It should dissolve the varnish. But this thing is getting no fuel to the cylinder at times. At other throttle positions it gets better. Seems to be 3-7k for the most part. At 9k it seemed to be honkin along pretty good. And it idles fine too. I'll change the plugs first. - If I had a garage that would be nice!
My DRZ the idle/pilot jet was SO small it clogged every 2 weeks
I think this is why it sold cheap
I first installed a filter hardware store briggs and stratton
Then got 2 sizes bigger pilot jet no problem sinse.
Get the complete jet kits , asked about pilot/idle jets get 2 sizes bigger... you will be happy.
seafoam will not touch corrosion from water in the gas

I'll do that. The local Kaw dealer said it would not make a difference but I know it will. Everything has to come to this country so lean. I also raise the needle by lowering the clip on it so I get more gas into the motor as well. - Rode to work today. Not running well but I can cruise along at 4k in traffic and it's ok. - Gotta love the way these things lean into corners.
