    PAIR mod on the GSX-R

    Don't do the marble trick.

buy three of these OEM pink caps from the dealer. they're like $5/each
    part # is 13859-41B10

it's the cap that's for the bottom of the air box, but they fit just fine for the PAIR mod.

install them on the bottom of the air box and top of the valve cover. some people safety wire the cap shut, but I used the PAIR hose clamps.
If you remove the PAIR system completely, you'll need to get a resistor 18-22 Ohm, 5-10wat to jump the plug from the wire harness.
If you dont, then you'll get an FI code which might be an issue if you ever get an FI issue and won't know.

I chose to remove the PAIR hoses and just connect the PAIR unit back to the wire harness, as I'm not a fan of jamming a resistor in the plug.

I'm not fishing that damned marble outta there. Where was this post 5 years and 8 months ago?

If I had the coin I'd have done the block off plate / remove the PAIR and then snipped the wire in the harness to the ECU like I did when I removed the SET solenoid

When I messaged Jim asking about the marble he firmly said not to. Honestly it felt like I was getting smacked by a parent when I was a kid again.

the 1000's have a block off kit i believe.
if i ever hear of someone cutting a wire from their wire harness, remind me to never buy a bike from you.

Roger that. Don't buy a bike, at least my 1k, from me. Not only does it have a snipped wire (that can be soldered back together) it has a marble in the tube.

Re: PAIR mod on the GSX-R

How else was I to get around the SET removal tho? Back in 07 when I got the bike, my source of info was from that "other" site that I've not frequented in many years. I bet that's not a surprise to hear. It hasn't caused any adverse affects, but granted cutting wires in the harness to the ECU isn't the appropriate way to prevent an FI code. Probably need a resistor there too, or I would have had to leave the solenoid in and just removed the cables. Back then tho.. it was all about the weight savings on that pig.

And you meant feel free to finish school, get a decent job and then be open to the purchasing of new bikes. Possibly a track bike even.

i didnt take one of the air box. there's one hose for the air box, so it should be fairly easy to figure out where the cap goes.

same as it does on a Honda

eliminates the fresh air intake into the exhaust. getting rid of the valve saves a tiny bit of weight and a dyno tuner can't tune the bike properly if they PAIR isn't somehow disabled (removal or temporarily blocking the hoses)

Also gets rid of the annoying pop sound when you let off the gas.

good to know I don't have to worrry about it on any of my hondas. 1989,2000,2004.

that pop is good for 1HP burst of power.

Except when you are on a long ass ride behind one that does it. Guy didn't even know it but I wanted to rip his head off after a few hours.

your 2000 and 2004 both have them. although not really necessary mods.
