    Penske shock rebuild

Anyone know good shops that will rebuild a Penske shock? I already called Computrack and got a quote. They are a little far from me. I'd also like to shop around a little.

    Re: Penske shock rebuild

    Q. How can I have my shock serviced?
A.Shocks can be serviced direct through Penske or at an authorized dealer. If you are sending your shocks directly to us, please include the following "Service Form" (completed in full) along with your shock absorber.
I have no idea how much it costs or how long it takes.

    As an aside...
    Q. Are Penske Racing Shocks owner rebuildable?
A.Yes, all of our shocks can be rebuilt by the end-user as long as the proper tools are used and instructions followed.

Did you talk to GMD Computrack North East, out of Bellingham, MA? I'd think they'd be pretty close to 'local' for Boston?

If it doesn't fit, try a bigger hammer.

    Re: Penske shock rebuild

Well, I the guy on eBay advertised the shock as a Penske 8970. After I purchased it yesterday, I noticed a few things off about the shock. Emailed Penske and they identified it as a 8981, the predecessor of 8983. Obviously lightyear difference between the 2 shocks.

It's already on the FedEx truck on route to for today's delivery. The 8981 is an older shock with 6 clicks of adjustment. I mean, I'm not racing or anything so I don't need 65 clicks of compression adjustment but I don't want too little either. Is this something that'll be good enough for street riding and 1-2 track days a year?
