I plugged it. It's the rear tire and I more than comfortable with that one losing traction if it did lose air.

And how do you come to that conclusion? Put your money were your mouth is and explain. I don't ride around high as a kite so yes I try to ride safe. Again ymmv but the op asked for opinions and if you disagree that's fine I just don't understand your inference.

    Re: Plugging a tire?

This is alway like an oil thread.

I have plugged many many tires including one this winter in 15*F (that really sucked roadside). The winter plugs are iffy but have ridden for tens of thousands of miles on plugged tires.

Riding year round here in the city I ride almost exclusively on plugged tires.

    A) If done right they can easily last the life of the tire (have done it dozens of tires)

    B) EVERYTIME you get on your bike, you are at full risk of a flat, plug or not. Dont think that putting a new tire on lowers your flat chances because logicly it does not at all. You are ALWAYS at that risk even if you are oblivious, which some guys seem to be.

I have had so many flats I now have 2 spare rims with tires just waiting. I also have a tire changer but I ride every day so need the bike.

Watch some utube vids to understand how and get good at it. Chances are it will happen again.

    Re: Plugging a tire?

I had a rapid decompression (not a blow-out) on my old Ducati 900SS. No plugs, great tire; it just let go on the highway doing 75mph. I didn't think I was going to die but I did think I was going to go into the guard-rail. Fortunately, I managed to stay on and not hit anything..!

I've had two punctures (both nails ) in the last year and plugged the first one. Debating whether or not to plug this one or just toss the (rear) tire...

    Re: Plugging a tire?

I learned long ago that it is foolish to go cheap on anything your life depends on.
For a rear tire, I would be OK with a proper inside patch or mushroom plug.
For a front tire, I would not be willing to risk any type of plug.

Think it's the Stop & Go compressor. Since those two punctures (rear) on the Guzzi, I haven't had any now that I carry the Dyna plug kit and compressor. (The first puncture was by a jagged hunk of metal, I replaced the tire. The second one was pretty small, I plugged it, then later took the wheel to Aero Cycle in Medford MA, and they repaired it with a mushroom plug from the inside.)
