puffs of blue smoke

Fired up the Bandit 400 yesterday, for the first time since last season, and took it for a spin. It took a lot of cranking to finally fire up and when it did, it blew some black smoke initially, then it puffed blue smoke until it was ridden a bit. I can understand the black smoke, it was running on choke and took awhile to start; the blue smoke has me befuddled though. Any thoughts? It went away completely once it was warmed up. I'm gonna start it cold again tonight and see what happens. Thinking valve seals shrank a bit over the Winter. It's only got 9300 miles, but it's 14 years old.

It ran great otherwise, BTW. What a fun little bike to toss around on a back road.

Do you mean frozen or rusted to the cylinder walls? Not likely, it didn't sit all that long, was kept inside my garage, and was stored during the driest months of the year. None of my other bikes or gas powered toys have ever had a rusty cylinder problem either.

If you meant "are the rings broken in?"; I'd hope so at 9300 miles.

I'd find it hard to believe the rings would be worn out all of a sudden too.

Not sure if they would shrink or not but it is perfectly normal for small amounts of oil to seap past the seals if the bike sits a while. If it were rings, it would not go away that soon...if at all

Thanks folks. Fired it up tonight and exhaust was nice and transparent. No blue smoke. Yay
