Hey everyone I wanted to post in regards to people's opinions on quick shifters. What does everyone think of quick shifters if i am not going to race my bike? Just looking for some feedback on this.
If you ain't first you're last!!
Yeah, its only purpose it has is to reduce shifting time by milliseconds. What's the point if you're not racing, eliminate using the clutch on upshifts?
Just blip off the throttle![]()

yea i donj't have any use for it (right now unless I decide to race) but I was reading up on them and just wanted to hear some opinions regarding ease of use and if it's worth anything. Thanks guys

I've tried them on a few bikes and didn't like it at all.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
Had one on my race bike and loved it. Full-throttle clutchless upshifts. Mine worked flawlessly (power commander brand). Combined with undercut transmission dogs it was definitely worth it for racing. Not having to come off the throttle momentarily to shift was worth 20 feet or so on the start-finish straight. Also, mid-turn shifts (turn 7 or 4 at Loudon for example) are safer (less kick from the rear end).
For the street? Useless.

super squid and i don't care

haha. 520 kits are a common power upgrade for gearing. 520 kits dont offer steel rear sprockets, so you'd get an aluminum one which is lighter. the 520 chain is thinner and lighter (right Degsy?) I believe. I almost bought one for my bike, but I want steel sprockets front and back.
I hope you know what a PCIII is at least.![]()
Degs, How many seasons did you run it? Mine always start missing shifts after a season or so. I agree that in roadracing applications, they are fantastic while functioning properly. I gave up on them though, because on the 125 if I missed one shift, I would lose one position on track.
Once a got rid of it, I learned I could shift very nearly as quickly without it. The amount you actually have to back off to get a clutchless shift in is almost imperceptable. I think I saved more time by making clutchless downshifts than I ever did with the quickshifter... pros and cons I guess.

haha you guys are ruthless!!!
If you ain't first you're last!!
You want ruthless?
We may be ruthless but we are experienced. You come on here asking about steering dampers, quick shifters, Power commanders and 520 chains... for your first bike?!
Dude?!These are things you DON'T NEED! (Especially for someone that doesn't have alot of money)
You even embrace the "Squid" title.
You need to be asking about MSF classes, Proper PPE, Who makes the best helmet, what kinda boots should I get? What trackdays do we reccomend, Would anyone like to show you the ropes/ roads in your area in the spring...
I mean come on... I understand your enthusiasm for the sport and wanting the "cool gear" but if you so much as ask one more thing about Carbon/lightweight/go fast bits... So help me....
**Rant off**
Welcome to the club man, I hope you stick around long enough to enjoy it.![]()
