    R6 Operating Temperature

I am relatively new to riding, this is my first riding season. I have a question about normal operating temperatures for a 2001 R6. I was riding home from work today in stop and go traffic and my temp got as high as 225 degrees when I was stopped and then it would fall to the 190s while I was moving again. Is this a normal temperature on a hot day sitting in traffic? Most of my previous riding has been on rural roads with little traffic so this was my first real experience of rush hour traffic. I just want to know if its normal, and if not, what can be done to help keep the temp down. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

does it help or does it hurt

when you shut the bike off, coolant stops flowing, some parts cool, but others heat up before they cool down, not a problem if it stays shut off and the parts that take on heat before they cool actually start cooling,

imho, yer more likely to see things like 4 corner failure, as well as put unneeded start on starter & battery

do you shut your car off under the same circumstance ?

    Re: R6 Operating Temperature

R6 user manual, although for an 06, states:

    104-242 degrees F= Operating temp

243-274 degrees F= "stop the vehicle and allow it to idle until the coolant temperature goes down. If the temperature does not go down, stop the engine."

Above 275 degrees F= "Stop the engine and allow it to cool."

Normal. Lol... I remember those days when I felt like a new parent... Run to the ER when you think she has a temperature.

My bike would be in DCF... And I'd be in prison for all the flogging, bumps & battlescars we've been through these last few years.
